I've been emailing back and forth with my mother all day about various things and her latest message read, "Aren't you supposed to be working?"
That's my mom. Even though I'm well into my 30's, she still takes her job seriously. Gotta love her!

Appreciate it while you can.......don't mean to sound like a mother, myself
But, my mom died 5 years ago, and I sure wish she were around to remind me of my responsibilities. Or to show me how she made her sand tarts.........

okay....off soapbox.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I definitely do appreciate our relationship and think it's great she's still such a mom to my brothers and me.

When I was in my late 20's, and had gone through a divorce, I moved "back home" to live with parents. My Dad would tell me to "go pot" (use the bathroom) before we would go for a drive anywhere. Finally I had to say, "Dad, I'm the Mom now. I have to tell my kids to go pot before a trip!"

Having said what I did, there on my soapbox......I have to share this story.
How many of us had said when we were growing up, "When I have kids, I'll never say that"? Well, my mom's saying was always "'Cause I'm the Mom, that's why!!" That used to bother me a lot as a kid...so I had that opinion, I'll never say that to my kid, I'll use reasons and explain to my child, etc.. Well, as you probably guessed, I told my son to go clean his room. He turns around and asks Why? Without thinking, out it popped! "'Cause I'm the Mom, that's why!!"
I thought my Mom must have come back from the dead. I actually looked around for her.

I can RELATE to that!!!!!!!
I have asked my parents many times why they still treat me like I'm a kid and their answer is always the same- because you're our baby and will always be until the day we die or YOU die!

Dad is pretty good about treating me like an adult. He gets on my case about being single still though. He'd always ask "Are you dating anyone?" "Why haven't you found someone out there?" "Maybe you should move back here and find a man HERE..."

Mom is definitely worse though- still has a hard time even though I am now in my 30's!

Let me give you an example of how it goes with my parents..
I have flown a lot more than my mom has (flying home to Utah to visit parents/family, etc) and she still acts like I don't know what I am supposed to do.

Here's a common conversation we have the morning of my flights-when my parents are to take me to the airport for me to go back to MD to my home.

Mom: "Pamela, do you have your ticket?"
Me: "Yes"
Mom: "What about your driver license?"
Me: "Yes........"
Dad: "Do you need help with the bags?"
Me: "No dad, I'm fine."
Dad: *taking a bag even though I said I was fine*
Me: "Dad! I said no.. *sigh* Be careful with your back!"
Mom: "Do you need money for the trip?"
Me: "Nooooooo........." *sigh*
Mom: "Do you have something warm to wear on the airplane?"
Me: "Moooommmm...I'll be fine!"
Mom: "What about something to snack on?"
Me: "Mom, I have flown before and know what to do!"
Mom: "Do you need to go to the bathroom before we leave for the airport?"
At that point- I ususally get pretty cranky and give her a look and she quits for a SHORT while.

I'm so happy I read this. I have moved out of my parents' house 3 months ago. I love living with my hubby (he's actually not legally my husband, but I love calling him that) but I really miss my mom. We live 2 hours away from each other and visit a lot. Moms are the best, and so are dads!!!
