okay, i have a werid question, and was wondering if anyone had cats that never rubbed, never marked anything. (not that it bothers me, just wondering if it is a more learned behaviror or instinct???) I have six cats, and the other five always rub on me, on their cat stands, the corners of the wall to mark their territory. my mystique never ever scents anything, and was curious about this. I have never seen a cat that didn't rub until she came along. hmmm, just wondering!!

That's something I've not particularly heard of, but it might be perfectly ok. If she displays any other things that might indicate a problem, you should take her in just to have it checked out. Otherwise, she's probably just not territorial, and therefore sees no need to mark anything. She might just be perfectly content, and knows without a doubt that you're her human, and sees no need.

One question...how old/young is she?

I have 2 cats that I have never seen rub on anything! But they both really dont care for human contact. They could be rubbing on other things when I'm not around though...but I doubt it.

she is a year old, and i had her since about two months, i found her outside. she is perfectly healthy, this is just a behavior thing. She is hype, love to play, although she is shy about humans touching her, which i narrowed down to her being outside at such a young age. I just never seen a cat not ever mark, and was wondering if this is common? I can't find any information on cats that don't mark whatsoever, and was just curious. I just got to thinking if this was either learned behavior, or instint or both? I can't find any research on that either.

Well, here's something encouraging for ya then. I don't think it could be anything health-related...just one of the many goofy kitty querks that are out there.

I haven't noticed any of my bengals marking anything by rubbing. My male adult sprays his territory and my female sprayed when she first came here but other then that no other kind of scent marking not even a cheek rub on a leg.
