So I've run into a slight snag introducing my two boys. Both of them are new to the household as of Sunday night and relatively new to each other - one is just over a year old and the other is 5 months. When I got home, I let Billy, the older one, out in the bedroom, where he promptly hid underneath the bed. Chay, the younger one, has been in the living room and has really warmed up to me. The problem is that I can't get much sleep on the couch, but I'm afraid to let Chay in the bedroom to sleep with me. Chay cries and scratches outside the door if I don't let him in. Billy refuses to come out from under the bed to see me - but the few times that Chay has followed me into the room experimentally, Billy will come out to see him if he thinks I'm not looking. Billy seems interested in being friends, but Chay's behavior is a little confusing - he hisses and backs into a corner, but will follow Billy out of the room. Any suggestions?

As a side note - is it out of the ordinary that Billy doesn't seem to have used the bathroom yet? He's eaten a little wet food. I wonder if it isn't just stress, because he's a shy cat to begin with. I'm supposed to take them to the vet today, but it doesn't seem very likely that I'll be able to coax him out from under the bed. Thanks for your help!

Well, apparently the boys made friends accidently while I was at work this morning. The bedroom door doesn't close very well - you have to really pull it to make the latch catch. Chay pushed it open last night, and apparently he did this morning too! I came home for lunch and the door was open - I expected to find evidence of a cat fight, but everything looked pretty normal. Chay runs straight in to say hi to Billy now when I open the bedroom door, so maybe everything will work out alright. :p

When it is an "accidental" meeting, it goes so much better. Many times I have "accidently" left the cat room door open a crack and had cats nudge it open and come out and meet the others. Very little friction that way-

Oliver and Emma's first real meeting was "accidental" also--Oliver opened the door to her room after they had both been sitting staring at each other on either side for days (glass french doors). I think they were in cahoots on that one though--Emma definitely wanted OUT of the guest room after a week in there! Their Bonnie and Clyde streak continues to this day!

lol Oh good! I was afraid everyone was going to say how awful I was for accidently leaving the door open! They're still a little nervous around each other - with Chay, I think its actually a bit of sibling rivalry, because he'll give me this look when I pet Billy (who came out of hiding last night) and he won't purr or even say he likes being petted until I really give him a good scratching.
But they spent the night on the bed together with no problems!
