"Minky" the mother of five kittens (approximately 3-4 wks) is nursing and allowing me to assist with bottle-feeding. I intend to take in the kittens and have them adopted when of age.

I am planning on some TNR for all the adult females from the colony including Minky. At what point, can I have her spayed? I would like her to continue nursing her babies as long as possible.

Also, what are the opinions out there on spaying while pregnant? Is it very stressful to the female or in the end, is it better for mother & unborn to just end the pregnancy?

I honestly believe that if these are outdoor cats..the best thing to do is to trap them and have them spayed. If Minky is indoors and cannot become pregnant again...then you can wait until the kittens are 10-12 weeks of age.

Yes, Minky is an outdoor cat...part of a feral colony in my backyard. She is currently nursing her babies. Sorry, I didn't indicate in my original post that she is outside.

I would spay her now. If she is outside she is more than likely pregnant again, so the sooner you spay her the better she will be. If you are bottle feeding her kittens then you can supplement them while she is gone for 24 hours. Her milk will drop for her kittens when they start nursing on her again, though they can be introduced to the weaning formula or solid foods soon.
