How do you get urine out of carpet?

Well, even after a month of confinement in the kitchen, kitty still wants to go pee on the carpet. I've pretty much given up on trying to stop her. She just finds a new spot to go. Vet thinks I'm waaay too paranoid about my cat now since I brought her in three times just this past couple months and I'm planning to take her again later this week just in case
. It's wierd that he doesn't just do a urinalysis instead of just giving me antibiotics to give to her all the time, doesn't seem to do anything.

Anyway, does anyone know a good way to get rid of urine off the carpet? This is really soaked in urine mind you (the beige colored carpet is noticeably yellow where she's gone, even after scrubbing/cleaning). I've tried nature's miracle (pretty much dumped a bottle of the stuff where the urine was), and used a "dual formula" Woolite pet odor eliminator (the one with two spray bottles connected to each other). Neither really got the smell or stains out. I'm thinking of renting one of those carpet shampooing machines and washing the carpet. I live in an apartment so can't really just go and change the carpet. The floor underneath is cement if that makes any difference on how to go about removing urine.

I'm going to Lowes and Home Depot tomorrow to get some plastic runner and carpet runner, idea is I'll lay plastic runner on the carpet and carpet runner on top of that so the urine stays on the carpet runner and the plastic runner prevents the urine from soaking into the carpet underneath. Hopefully she'll pee on that instead and I can chuck it away at the end of my lease next year. Sigh...

But I'd REALLY appreciate any ideas on how to get rid of the urine smell.

at my house
When Sister and Argyle moved in with us (from across the street) they had a habit of going in one corner of my living room. It took me about five months of pouring the Nature's Miracle on the spot, and placing aluminum foil over it to keep them away and to get rid of the smell.

A few things that I have noticed with the Nature's Miracle you have to wait about two weeks before the smell go away, and you really have to use a lot of it on the spot (really saturate it). The stuff has to penetrate your carpet, the padding and the flooring. I used about a gallon before the smell went away.

There is a Nature's Miracle for Cats and I think it works better than the plain. The other thing is that if you use a shampoo or carpet cleaning solvent on the stain with the the Nature's Miracle it doesn't work as well.

Both Argyle and Sister eventually learned to use the litterbox. I sure hope you can find a way to get kitty to go in the box.

www.urine-off.com has the best product I have found on the market for old urine stains. If your vet isn't doing a urinalysis, I would find another vet-

You definetly need a new vet. Vet shouldn't think you are paranoid when there is clearly something wrong with your cat. Vet shouldn't just prescribe antibiotics when they clearly don't help. Vet should do a urinalisis to see if she has crystals, and other tests. Do not stick with your old vet, find a better one ASAP. My cat was also peeing all over the place, and the vet said they can't do anything, but at least that vet did test his urine. So, I took him to a new vet, and he was prescribed special food, which seem to have done the trick so far. You definetly need to find a new vet for your kitty, your current vet sounds awful.

Hmm... does anyone know where I can find a reputable vet in Ann Arbor, MI? Right now she likes to pee on one side of the hallway, so I covered the spot with a carpet square and put her food on top of it and she seems to have stopped peeing on that spot, but she's peeing behind the couch now (guess it's better there than the hallway). I also put another litterbox out, and she seems to pee in that one occasionally. Her other litterbox she never pees in, and she poos in it exclusively.

Do cats with UTI's and bladder infections show any sensitivity to the rear quarters? Seems I can poke and prod around her rear and belly, and she doesn't even give a response, and which is what I'm thinking the vet is going by (he seems to just kinda press her bladder area to see for a reaction, but he never gets any).

Oh goodness, that's just goofy. I can't beleive the vet does that. Vet should want to do a urine test and X-rays to check for bladder stones, not poke and prode around her belly. My vet would also prode around the belly to see how full the bladder is with urine. I took him to several vets and neither one ever said that just by prodding they would know if cat is o'key or not. They all prodded (it's called feeling the bladder) but neither suggested that would tell them if cat has any problems. X-rays and urine tests to start with-very important. Change vets ASAP, yours just doesn't sound right. I am not too crazy about my cat's vets either, but at least they all wanted to do urine tests. That's a minimum.

The product a friend of mine swears by (I haven't tried it yet, but will soon) is called Get Serious! It's more expensive than Nature's Miracle, but you don't saturate the spot. The directions say you squirt it on in a "z z z" pattern and work it in with a brush, then blot it up with a paper towel or terry towel. The smell is supposed to go away right away.
A small bottle at Petsmart goes for around $8.
