Sitka and Kaitu (my Alaskan Malamutes) are well tolerated by all of my masters, except one (Tigger). Sitka was unable to climb stairs yesterday and today could not stand. All the cats, except Tigger, came to visit her many times yesterday and today and seemed to know that she was suffering. We took Sitka to the vet at the earliest time she could see us.

Sitka crossed with her head in my arms, with Nancy and three vet techs comforting.

You don't say how old Sitka was, but I'm sure you gave her a wonderful life. And when the time came, you gave her the gift of freedom from the pain of this life. There is no greater love, and Sitka knew that, no doubt.
Let yourself be comforted by the time you had together, and your mutual love.

I got Sitka from Malamute rescue 9 years ago. She was ???? about 2 years old and weighed 45 pounds. She regained her weight in three months but it took over a year for her to not cringe when any male person came close. Cringe or roll over and show her belly, along with her low weight told me that the previous owner was cruel and uncaring. The liver disease she suffered was a result of the abuse. Sitka did not like to take pills and we had to give her 14 pills a day so life could get tiresome with someone who would NOT open her mouth. We had to resort to good cop/bad cop. My son or I would give the pills and Nancy would give her the food/treats. She would eat for me if I sat down beside her. Nancy had to stand. We never did figure that out but Sitka was quite the character. Beg food from everyone and playing with all the cats but Tigger. That stopped about 8 months ago.

I was laying on the floor with her, head cradled and I don't think I'll ever forget that last sigh... and her eyes closing. Pain gone.

Memories are all that's left. We will get a paw print and her cremated remains will be in a nice wooden box.

Our Vet, and the staff, called her the miracle girl because of what she had survived. Cirrhosis of the liver, the canine form of lupus, arthritis and old age. We think she was about 11 or 12. The only time she growled or snapped at anyone was when she had her hips examined if I was not around. I would sit beside her and pet her and than she tolerate all the needles, exams and different things vets/vet techs did. She acted this way when Nancy was around also.

She'll be missed by all the people and the cats and dog.

Thank you for your thoughts.
Felton

When I read the Rainbow Bridge or watch the video, I sometimes get lost among the names: King Arthur, Charlie, Lady, Sitka, Princess, Amanda, Come here (pronounced comear) Spot, Blackie and Mums.

and the ones who are here now: Tigger, Laptop, Sunshine, Kaitu, Sterling, Charlie, Shadow Ram.

So many different people to introduce to each other.....That's gonna be fun.

What a sweet story. I'm glad you were able to restore Sitka's trust after you rescued her. It is so hard to lose a beloved dog. I am very sorry for your loss.

Like you, I do look forward to the reunion in heaven. What a glorious time that will be!

As I read your post, I was brought to tears thinking about the way I also held my Labs head as he was put to sleep...remembering that last sigh as he exhauled his last breath. That's a memory that I'll have the rest of my life, along with all the great ones. I'm so sorry for your loss today, and my thoughts are with you. Your Sitka and my Goose are playing together in RB now, and they're happy.

Young, alive and prancing around
unobserved by us they play
painless and free
jumping and running with joy
as we remember them
as kittens and puppies
stealing our hearts
before we got their love
looking up with big eyes
for us to get lost within their soul
enslaved
till they cross.

Godspeed, Sitka! condolences to the rest of the family on your loss. Sitka was very blessed to have been a member of your family; she was such a brave, trusting girl to overcome so much adversity. I am sure that she is enjoying the rich rewards that she so valiantly earned, but her truest reward will be when she greets the cats and you, as you all cross RB. Hugs, Susan

We had to take Kaitu in today to get put down. He would have been 13 yrs. old at the end of the month. All the vets and most of the vet techs came in to say goodbye. He was loved by all.

sniff....

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sitka flourished under your love and care and had a happy life with you. Maybe she will get along with my kitten Wukong since she seems to love playing with cats =) Take care!

It is something that I will never forget. I was surprised that all the vets and most of the staff came in to say goodbye though. He touched the hearts of many people.
