I just ordered new ID tags for my kitties off of ebay. I thought I'd share because I'm so happy with how they came out. They are laser etched, so all the info I requested could be included on the tag. The seller laser etches both sides of the tag too! They have a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. This seller's ID is laserdog, and they are in Michigan. They work very quickly. I lived in CT, and received my tags in less than a week. I will post pictures once I unpack the digital camera. (I'm moving, and have no idea where anything is.) I just thought I'd share for anyone looking for good pet tags, and because I'm sure I'm not the only one who is unsatisfied with the tags sold at pet stores and in vets offices. The tags I purchased were 2.75 a piece, which is a lot less than the cost of buying tags around here, and the quality is way better. I was concerned because the pet stores and vets offices around here only allow three lines on the tags they sell, and I wanted the extra lines to list my apartment complex name, and the town in which I live. My cats are strictly indoor animals, but I wanted nice tags in case they ever got out (God forbid). I don't buy much from ebay, but this time I'm glad I did.

Thanks so much for the info! I just noticed today that our home phone number on my dog's ID tag has our old area code on it! (Our area code was changed yyyyeeeaaaarrrrrssss ago, but no one thought to check the dog's tag, haha) From looking for places to get Oliver's tag, I know they can be pretty restrictive with amount of info and can also be pricey... I'll have to look this seller up and order her a new tag... thanks!

Hehehe... I'm awful, couldn't help it and just bought a pet tag!
I put my home address on one side, and my parents' on the other side, so when I travel to Brazil I can turn the tag around so the right address faces out depending on where I'm at. I bought it directly from their site for $5.50, I chose the large blue heart! http://www.laserdogtags.com

I love the idea that both sides are used on the e-bay tags. Maybe I could get by with one tag instead of two for each cat. They would like that.

Dexter & Sadie have a micro-chip in them so I need the tracking info on a tag plus their name & my home info.

Any ideas for a 2 sided tag layout?
Right now I use split rings to attach my cat's tags.
Has anyone used the "S" hook. How does it work & do you think that it is a better choice?
Which metal do you prefer for you cat's tags...aluminum or stainless steal?

This look like a great place to buy tags. Thanks.

I hate the S rings, big pain in the butt.
With the split rings, I can put more than one tag on the ring and they will still hang freely.
My cats that are collared 24/7 wear ID tag, rabies tag, and a rubber tag with their microchip number on it.

I use only stainless, aluminium wears out faster.

Oliver's tag is attached with a ring and is stainless steel.... my dog's is attached with an S clip and is also stainless steel.... I think the S clips are a little stronger and are less likely to be accidentily pulled apart by getting caught on something.... I like the double sided engraving too because I have his name and my info on one side and a notice about his FIV+ status on the other just in case he ever gets out

Oliver also wears his collar 24/7 except for overnight after his baths so he has time to dry out completely

I also like the split rings better because it's easier to change the tags from collar to collar, if the collar wears out or if you like to change collars with the seasons (my cats have holiday collars). Taking off an S-hook requires a pair of pliers, and the hook weakens with repeated bending and unbending. The only time I've had a split ring fail was on one of my dogs, back when we had an 80-pound foster puppy who liked to grab my dogs by their collars. I couldn't ever imagine my cats tearing up a split ring.

On the back side of their tags, I'd put something like "if I'm outside, I'm lost", so that someone who finds the cat & reads the tag knows that they're indoor-only cats & need to be returned home, even if they're found close to the house. It would also be a good place for medical information, if your cat needs medication or has a serious health condition.

I can't answer the metal question, b/c my cats' tags have always been plastic.

Wow, I bought the tags through the website and it was posted as $5.50 for a double sided tag, so I paid for it, and just received an email from the seller saying the price of the double-sided tag has changed and is now $4.25 (same as the basic tag) and he will refund $1.25. I'm impressed! I haven't even seen the tags in person and I'm already pleased for doing this!

Well, I've also given in! I just order my black lab, Cuddles, a new steel fire hydrant tag (my dad's a fire fighter, hehe) since her one now still has the wrong phone number... great product at a great price! Can't wait to see it on her!

Sounds good, but I have always used the little screw-up cylinders, into which you put a slip of paper with whatever info you need. I put a dab of nail varnish on to prevent them unscrewing by accident. Theya re very small and don't bother the cats at all. They also wear their collar magnets of course.

I tried the little tube with Oliver first before I ordered him a metal tag, but I found it would get dipped in his water dish and any info on it would run and get all smeary...

Got the tag today and it's wonderful!!! Perfect size, clearly written, all my information there, I highly recommend! I was going to post a picture here but realized that it would mean I'd be giving my address and phone #s to the world. Good thing I figured that one out in time

I have recently adopted a persian and would love to put a collar and tag on her. I was told though that a collar would make her neck fur mat more than it already does. Is that true. We are getting ready to move so the dogs will all need new tags also. I will definetly be getting theirs from there also. What awesome looking tags and they will have enough room unlike the other ones that I have seen.

These are great for cats.. but just a comment on those with dogs who have these collars in case no one thought about it.. A few weeks ago I posted about a dog that appeared in my bushes. He was injured and was wearing a collar. The collar had one of those tube type things that I assume had his owners info in it. He also had another cute little tag with his name on it. I could get close enough th read the tag with his name on it, but the dog wouldn't let me near him enough to get to the tube. If the owners number would have been on the tag where I could read it, I could have contacted them. But it wasn't.... Just a thought on the subject of tags since I know several of you have dogs too.

I just ordered my tags from the e-bay site. I got 5 tags. 2 ea. for Dexter & Sadie & one for me.

I got the stainless steel heart with Dexter's name on one side & Sadie's on the other for my key ring. Awwwwww

A round blue tag, for each cat, is devoted to their micro-chip info. printed on both sides.
A small pink heart tag, for each cat, has their name & my phone # on one side & on the other side I put...
"If I am outside...I am lost."

I am very pleased. The total cost was only $12.
I will post here with a review, when I get them.

Thanks MusicTeacher for letting us know about these tags.
