So...it happened, in late July. I can't honestly believe I'm at this age. It sure doesn't match how I feel inside, nor how I think I look or act.

It was an interesting day. DH planned a day trip to the Oregon coast, to Newport and Agate Beach. Trying to get out the door though was more difficult than we imagined. First, a rescue call re an American Curl needing pulling from a will-kill that was trying to hold on to her so we could get her pulled (a refusal from a no-kill in that city), then a business call as one of my customers couldn't get her order through, feeding and medicating my two oldsters (and us)..finally, we left several hours late.

It was glorious weather, and the key portion of the day, was that in my daydreams as a younger woman, this was just what I wanted at this time in my life in terms of a loving, committed, stable relationship.

My mom and step-dad surprised me with a stunning pair of ruby and gold drop earrings, simple in design with the focus on the rubies.
DH really surprised me with delicate sapphire drop earrings and a sapphire pendant, and my first ever pressure cooker
These were my favorite gifts ...then a dear friend who lives several states away also surprised me with gifts - her friendship is truly a wonderful gift in itself.

At Agate Beach we only found some Jasper, but had an interesting experience as the wind was really gusting hard (the seagulls were flying sideways, and had trouble walking along the beach to pick at bits of crab and other creatures) and almost blew me over. We had to trudge over some decent little sand dunes - and with the wind it was like being in a sandstorm - I had sand in my mouth, my hair, my ears (!), my shoes...it was something. DH had not seen anything like since he was in Iraq years ago.

Driving through the area of Oregon around Tillamook was wonderful - it so closely resembles the area of Central NY that I grew up in..it was a bit like going home.

So...what does this age/number mean to me? Time to take off hold all those "I will do it someday" plans, time to plan how I can make a difference before I pass on, time to truly appreciate every single blessed day, and all the relationships that are meaningful in my life.

I am glad you had a good day. Turning 50 is a milestone, and it is good you set your marker and made more goals-

Turning 50 doesn't look so bad now. I feel like I might just be good for another 50. I turn on the 13th of Sept. Now at thjis time last year before my surgery and weight loss It was a whole nother story. So just think of all the neat things that may be coming your way in the next 50 years Pat. And from your post I'd say you have things well in hand. Congrats on a Half Century.

Thanks - I also have to say if I had not begun getting my weight and health back under control over 2 years ago, this would not have been as happy a birthday. It's the whole point - I want at least another 40 years - so I can have a 50th wedding anniversary (and "I" really want to be there, all faculties intact!

Congratulations! You sound really happy and content, with your life and priorities well balanced. 50 was a scary time for me, but I really enjoyed the next decade and looking back I feel that was the most achieving time of my life. Now I was really scared when I passed 60 last year.....

Congratulations Pat

I know there are things I plan to be doing when I get to 50, and it's good to know that for some people these plans really do work out (even if for only daytrips!)

Here's to the next 50!

It sounds like a really special day, Pat!

As everyone has already said, it seems like you have the plan sorted - which is great! I hope you have lots more days like that!

Congrats on the 50 mark!!! I have a couple of years to reach that yet however. It seems hard to believe I'm the age I am sometimes It just seems like yesterday that I was in my 30's. The only thing that is hard to accept is we can talk about things in terms of decades versus yrs (ha ha). Enjoy this milestone in your life.

50 is a wonderful age. You have the wisdom to be who you really are and the insight to love evey minute of it. Congratulations

Sounds like you had a MOST satisfactory 50th, Pat.

I haven't had too much trouble with the milestone birthdays, including 50, because by the time I get there, my brother has done it, and Rob, and his sisters, and a close friend, and the number doesn't seem to matter anymore. Well, that's the way it HAS been, but I think 60 may be different -- my friend is this year, and I'm not calmed down yet.

Anyway, Pat, glad you had a good celebration -- and enjoy the 50s. I love what Lei said...
