Not all, but many tend to the pretentious regarding the rest of their own country, let alone the US..
There are many negative stereotypes involving the knowledge base that Americans have about the rest of the world. That, and the idea that all Americans are basically dumb and rude. (Having visited some very nice cities and towns in the US, and knowing how ignorant it is to generalize, I wouldn't say that at all, obviously)..
I even saw an ad recently where Americans can buy a 'Canadiana pack' for travelling that included a Canadian flag to sew on your backpack so that you wouldn't be labelled or mistreated because of where you were from..Very weird indeed.
And a friend of mine, when travelling in London, was treated very rudely indeed until she told the salesgirl she was Canadian instead of American...
So, please don't hold it against us For the most part, we are all a sweet and friendly bunch
