Lately when I take Benji out on his harness and leash he will come over to me an rub against me. He does NOT want to be loved but goes on about his business and then, when he cannot decide what to do or where to go next he comes over and rubs against me again.

Then later when I am lying on the lawn he comes over and rubs against me and lies next to me and makes biscuits on my arms. He STILL does not want to be loved up but just petted.

Is this for assurence that I love him or what? I would Love to take it as a sign he loves me but is it?

Yup. He's marking you as his. My Cindy is the loviest lovebug, but there are definitely times when being held is NOT what she wants -- not in the mood? too hot? whatever. That doesn't stop her from rubbing and chatting, but if I pick her up, she's down before I've finished straightening up! ...and continues rubbing and chatting!

Miss Kitty would be happy for the rest of her life if the only human contact she had was with rubbing up against people's legs. That's all she does. She is NOT a lap cat - she will stay wherever I put her (lap, etc.) while I'm massaging her head or just petting her, but the second I stop she's off, runs around the room, and five seconds later...she's rubbing up against me again.

I also use this as a "she's ok" sign - for instance, the first time I bathed her. I was afraid she'd hate me, but thirty seconds after she got out of the sink she rubbed her little wet self against me.

She's just showing affection, and marking you as "hers". It's pretty normal, more so for some cats than others.

If I was being totally serious and estimating, I'd say Miss Kitty rubs up against my ankles/legs no less than 50 times a day.
