Doesnt sound like my two fosters will be meeting each other any time soon, so letting them both have enough access to the house is going to be tricky!! Tiddles decided to chase Pebbles last night, so i stepped in and put Tiddles back in the bathroom so she couldnt carry on having a go at Pebbles. After a while i let Tom out, and couldnt get him back in his room to get Ginger, so left him out. he decided to follow Ginger into the kitchen and then start spitting and growling at him - Ginger just seemed to sit there, occasionally spit back and accept it, so Tom was the one who walked away. I stood supervising with a water bottle in case they attacked - was this the right thing to do? This morning i let them both out of their rooms separately while i hoovered them, and Tiddles was on the landing making a funny noise, went to touch her and got scratched - then i realised Pebbles was also on the top of the landing. Neither was going to move, so i got something to wrap Tiddles in and moved her out of the way so Pebbles could move. As they are both just growling and spitting at my two, could this just be fear rather than aggression? I was hoping to put them both on the rehoming page at some point during the week, so dont know whether to put they both need to be only cats or not

First off, bless you so much for fostering! It sounds like a very tough job at best!

From your description, I'd say its best to keep them apart for a longer period of time. I realize this puts a strain on you, but by keeping them separately confined, you're minimizing damage to the kitties (they're not fighting and hurting one another); avoiding litter box issues (they have their own cat litter boxes to use safely), and their stress levels are kept at a minimum (again, avoiding cat litter box issues).

I'd say you're on the right track to keep them apart at this stage. Sometimes cats can take a very long time to calm down.

Good luck, bless you,

Cheers. They are in 2 separate rooms anyway, as we thought Tiddles had cat flu when she came. I am quite willing to let them have separate time out, it just makes things a bit hard, but i would rather that than risk any injuries, especially as one is at least 2 kg heavier than the other!!!
