Rocketâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s such a cuddle-cat. He loves to lay on my stomach or my chest when Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m laying on the sofa reading. But he wonâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t do it if Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not wearing a shirt!! Lately itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s been so hot and Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve been going about the house in just a pair of shorts.Today I was laying on the couch clad in just shorts and Rocket jumped up to lay on me. He looked around, first at my legs, then at my bare torso, and looked confused -- like he couldnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t decide what to do. I tried to pull him on to my stomach, but he resisted and gave me his “No you donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t!!†meow, so I let him go. Later I was holding him on my lap, sitting on the sofa, and I tricked him by laying down while I was holding him, so that he ended up on my stomach. He looked uncomfortable and unhappy, so I put him down. Strange little cat….why do you suppose he doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t like laying on bare skin? Is he some kind of a prude?

Not the first cat who didn't like bare skin.
That was my Shasta [RB]. She really was unhappy to be in contact with bare skin. Don't know what it is. I've wondered if it was to do with bare skin on their body being abnormal, and perhaps instinctively to be avoided? But she's the only one I've encountered who cared, until now. So scratch THAT theory, I guess!!

with mine i think its because as kittens they learn, clothing = can be clawed (to some extent) and climbed on, bare legs= screams and no hugs. lol

maybe he thinks he's not allowed to touch bare skin?>

My Basia (1st picture below) loves to sleep on my chest when I'm in the recliner - as long as I'm wearing a sweatshirt. A T-shirt won't do, and bare chested is right out. She doesn't mind kneading my bare belly, but she won't sleep there. Unfortunately, with Detroit's weather lately it will be a long time before she finds me in a sweatshirt!

Maybe just the feel of bare skin is weird to him lol. Some cats only like specific textures. For example, i have several comforters for my bed and my kitty likes specific ones. If it is a comforter she doesn't like, she will not jump on the bed. On the other hand, if she likes the comforter she will sleep on it alot or knead her paws.

That's a good point. Cindy loves to sleep on our bed, preferably between my legs, though it's also acceptable without a human. BUT the comforter has to be on. Bare sheet? Nope. With or without human, the sheet is not acceptable. I get into bed these warm nights, with only the sheet, she gets up and walks around with a scowl on her face, looking pointedly at the sheet, and then at the comforter folded on the bottom of the bed, and then at me, and then gets down. You can practically hear the exasperated sigh!
The fabric on the comforter is a cotton/polyester blend, just like the sheets -- go figure!

Most all the cats I've had have been like this; they don't like sitting on laps of folks dressed in shorts for instance. I've always just chalked it up to the surface being slippery with nothing to grip and left it at that.

Mookie takes his cuddles however he can get them. Hubby & I both sleep in the nude, and he loves to cuddle up in our laps when we first sit up... a little worrysome for us
but he doesn't notice.

Now for the R rated, slightly related funny story...
Hubby got out of bed to pee, and Mika followed him and sat on the tub with his front paws on the toilet seat watching. Hubby looks down to see a little brown paw with claws extended, reaching in slow-mo toward the source of the stream

Curiosity killed the cat, indeed!

Yeoow!!! Of my three Ellie is the only one who actually prefers bare skin, but she is weird on that point. She will go all out to be underneath a shirt or skirt or nightdress and then she settles down to purr and lick and suck! It is almost pornographic in her determination to get there, and when you say 'no' firmly she stops with her nose pressed to your skin, as if she needs the scent. One visitor (male) said she woke him up doing unmentionable things under the duvet
. Maybe we could rent her out?

My Skye kitty does the same thing. I sleep in the nude and she will only sleep on my tummy when I have clothes on. But she will lay next to me cuddled up. I don't know how she'd be able to feel my skin with her fur though
