You have given me the impression that you think we are all bad. That hurts.
Your comments about how you hate it here and how we are all "backwards" really hurt my feelings.
I do not smoke or drink at all, and I get along fine. Everyone accepts it.
Racism is not only a factor in the South. It is in the North, and West as well.
I do hate it where I am, I am not in Ga, I did pass down there when I moved here, and when my husband and I walked into a Mcdonalds, the place got real quiet and people just stared, I don't think that is southern hospitality. I have never heard the "N" word used by another person in a bad way until I came here. I do not think all people smoke and drink in the south, but where I am the majority does, or has. The bars are open all night , and day, and I hate walking near people who smoke, because my daughter has breathing issues. I do think that some people here are backwards, and I have a good friend from here( she moved up north
), who agrees with me. I have noticed in this STATE, that there is a big difference between the races and economic standing. The sad thing , those who are poor continue to be poor, and the rich are happy to do it. Where I am from there are lots for families and children to do, where I am now, it is more for adults and tourists. I can't stand driving by people and they are throwing things out the window of their cars, and I can't stand people being racist here. I can give so many examples, but I don't want to take up all the space. I won't say that everyone is bad in the south, I did not say that, I think that racism , has left a big impact here, and it has made living for those of us who are not racist, or culturally aware not fun. It is true , I have only lived in N.Y., been to N.J., Penn. , Conn, and have passed through the southern states on my way here, but anyone would notice the difference. IT is not southern hospitality( or maybe this depends on where you are from, and what color you are), it is an indifference to your fellow human being.
You say racism is a fact in the North and West, I can't talk for the West, but I can talk for the North, I can only say racism is everywhere, but it is more abundant in the south and more accepted. Would I want to live here in the south, no not even for 1 million free dollars. I have made some nice friends here, but I have been denied friendships because of my husband's ethnicity also. That is a sad fact.
