My Freckles is going to have his teeth cleaned, and a possible extraction of 2 teeth tomorrow. I've never had this procedure done with a cat, so I have some questions. First, should I feed him only wet food for the first few days afterward? (I feed him dry right now). Second, do I need to keep him away from my other cat? I am very nervous about this but I'm trying to not show it. I think I'll be buying a refill of Felaway on my way home tonight.

When my cat had his teeth cleaned he just ate his regular dry food. (Wet food always gives him diarrhea.) They did tell me to wait 4 hours and only feed him 1/4 C every fifteen minutes to be sure his tummy could keep it down. But he didn't have any teeth extracted, just a cleaning.

My Katie had to have her teeth cleaned and a tooth extracted six years ago. The vet did recommend feeding her wet food only for a few days after, which was fine with Katie. There was no need to keep her away from my other cat. She was a little out of it afterward, and the vet recommended trying to keep her quiet and still, which wasn't easy, but she came through everything just fine. I'm sure Freckles will too. Sending good vibes to both of you.

I just heard back from the vet - 4 teeth extracted. The roots were actually dead. I can't imagine the pain this cat has gone through. The fact that it's costing me a lot of money isn't what's bothering me. It's that the person who had him before me didn't think enough to get him a yearly checkup. I can't wait to get him home and know he's better.

I know that you are so relieved that Freckles is ok.
Both of my kitties had their teeth cleaned this year. I did not change their diet after their surgery because it would cause a tummy upset. You might want to add a little water & let it soak into Freckles dry food to soften it a little for a day or so. If you have concerns be sure to ask your vet what you should do about food. Do not give food until Freckles is wide awake.

Freckles is a lucky kitty. You are talking exellent of your furbaby. Bravo

Keep us updated about how sweet Freckles is doing.

Thanks for the good thoughts - Freckles is making an amazing recovery. He didn't want to stay in the bedroom when I got him home - he insisted on being in the living room with me and my other cat Bob. My mother came over this morning and he went right up to her. He did spend longer than usual in his favorite box under the kitchen table, but that's better than spending it in the vet's office. He didn't eat much last night, but this morning he would only eat out the bowl Bob was using!
