My 4-month old kitten smells. It's kind of like a poop smell. The smell seems to be right over her left shoulder. When you pick her up and smell her fur you can smell it. What should I do? Should I try to bathe her? I've never given her a bath before, and my other cat has never needed it. Would those kitty wipes work so I wouldn't have to do a full bath? Should I take her to the groomer? If I bathe her, I assume I need to buy kitty shampoo.

I did a rear check and didn't see any "cling-ons" as I call them.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Rachel

You could try just wiping over her fur with a damp cloth.

A lot of dish soaps will be much too drying to the kitten. If anyone is going to bathe a kitten I reccomend kitten shampoo since it is formulated and pH balanced just for them.

The smell seems to be gone now. Maybe she groomed herself, or my other cat cleaned her. I think I'll still pick up some kitty shampoo and wipes in case she gets stinky again.

Hope the smell has gone for good! In the past, in an emergency, I have used Dove shampoo which is neutral and very gentle, and I have heard other TCS members recommend Dawn liguid detergent. But now I keep pet shampoo on hand just in case, though I don't bath my cats unless there is a real need -oil or tar or very heavy mud on their fur..

We have problems with one of the cats not cleaning her tail as well as she should. I have both kitty wipes and kitty shampoo on hand. The wipes are good if the spot can be cleaned easily.
