Do you use any fun/useful/amusing sayings?

My Grandma used to say "There's no use crying over spilt milk." (Spilt is spilled).

I don't think I have any amusing sayings, but I probably do.

My favorite quote is by Oscar Wilde - "even though we may be laying in the gutter, we're still looking up at the stars"

When someone is depressed or feeling hopeless I tell them to think of themselves as an ant. You know when you bury an ant with sand and you think it couldn't POSSIBLY crawl out? And then it does?

I also like to say "groovy" instead of ok, that's good or cool. It makes people laugh cause it's so 60s.

I like to say "oh that is SOOOO two years ago" or "that is SOOOO 1999".

Also if I see someone with really funky old pants or something (for example) I will say "um....the 70s called, they want their pants back".

What a great sense of humor everyone here has!

I thought of 2 more:
"well-fed tigers don't hunt" and "it's 40% horse & 60% rider" (re: marriage advice). My grandma had one, "If you don't like getting stepped on, get off of the floor."
I esp. love the advice about popping bubble wrap, and even if in the gutter, look up & enjoy the stars!! Thanks, everyone!

I have a quote sticking on the wall at my work that says, `There's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent upon spilling it'. I love that one.

And a particular favourite that made me laugh and laugh when I first heard it is:

`About as useful as a chocolate teapot'

Oh, and I love these ones too...

`Looks like the butter has slipped off his pancake' ... or ... `She doesn't have all her chairs around the table'

Movin' on up!
When advising someone, from my vast well of experience, I say, "This ain't my first rodeo."

When confronted with one of those loudmouthed, posturing "macho men", my response is, "A REAL man doesn't have to prove he is."

"Useless as t***s on a boar" is self-explanatory.

My own philosophy is: Life's too short to drink bad whiskey, deny yourself chocolate or dance with ugly men.

Did you learn that in charm school?
I wouldn't take her to a dogfight if she was the defending champion!
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes you time as annoys the pig.

I really like KrazyKat2's signature quote, " I refuse to tiptoe cautiously through life, only to arrive safely at death!"

When I ask my mother what we're having for dinner she will say "Wig Wom & A Gooses Bridle" or something...it sounds like that anyway! LOL!

Yes, like this one `Age is a matter of mind - if you don't mind, it doesn't matter'/

My Dad has some great sayings - all different answers to the same question: If I would ever ask him where he was going, he would answer with one of the following:

`To see a man about a dog'
`To a pyjama party'
`There and back to see how far it is'.

EVERY time. It got hopelessly predictable but it always makes me think of Dad very fondly!

One I said so often when the kids were growing up was....

Everything turns out how it's supposed to, it's how we deal with it that counts!

Now if I try to pop that one at the kids they will roll it off as quick as I can and follow with... "I know mom!"

For the useful series I've usually used...
As useful as a screen door on a submarine!

My Grandad always use to say when we were searching for something and then we finally found it he would say "What's that? A piece of cheese!"
