OK I got a real job this time, I work at McDonalds. First day iwas in drive though( The person didnt train me at all just put me on cash register while she took orders, the next day i was in front doing breakfast and got it down fast now the 3rd day I started losing my voice.

Could the custamers be getting me sick, I mean Some of them come in with rotten stinking disgusting breath. Its been a week now and i still keep losing my voice from time to time lastr night I went to the ER since my ears and throat hurt. I have 2 swabs on my throat and 5 tubes of blood taken and a steriod shot for the swelling of my throat and my voice, got it in my hip. It took them about 15 minutes to get the blood from me since i have a serious fear of needles so think how bad it was gettting a shot in my hip!!! I tried to get a day off of work but they wouldnt even give me a note. I been struggling to talk to the custamers and take orders for days and I know im going to be sent home if this dont get better.

How long does it take for this shot to kick in?
Today it seemed worse cause I couldn't even talk this morning. My mom is gonna try and get me a note from my regular doctor to excuss me from work tomorrow I know its going to get worse and I work around small children everyda and I dont wanna risk getting them sick. I was told that their were alot of people coming in this a sore throat all week so, i hope i didnt catch it from someone who was ordering food or I gave it to them.
Oh and not to mention im having difficulty breathing right now. like im breathing thick air.

I bet you what is making you sick is the keys on the cash register that you are punching and touching people's money, and then touching your own mouth, etc. Dirty, dirty, germ ridden things....
Also, could be stress of new job too.
Poor thing! What did they say the sore throat was? Is is Strep throat?

You need to wash your hands constantly. Every chance you get, wash. You can even get a bottle of hand sanitizer and keep it by your cash register. When you get a break in customers use it. And most importantly, keep your hands away from your mouth. You could be picking up germs from anywhere. One of the small children you work around at the other job could have passed on something. You need to eat well to keep your immune system up as well and start taking a multi vitamin. You can't really avoid the public, and you can't quit working so you have to take good care of yourself and take the necessary precautions to avoid getting sick.

not stripe, the keys are touch screen. and im over the stress, but i did take that into thought since ive had this before twice. They took blood to seen if there is an infection in my blood an the steriod shot to help but just makes me feel worse. I have scaring on my ear drum from all the ear infections ive had from when I was little, found that out last night.

doesn't matter what the keys are, there are still major germs from such a high-volume restaurant, and the money you take from people as well.

I agree with washing your hands constantly, and keeping hand sanitizer beside you if you can.

I still don't quite understand about the steroid shot and your throat though. What did they tell you it was? Or do they know?

yes you should always wash your hands and always keep your hands away from your mouth, money is the one of the worst to get bacterias (its also known that there is cocaine on every single money paper), its not necessarely from breathing into someone elses face, also the key touch pads at maccas still have germs on it.
Start Drinking a glass of pure orange juice a day (with out sugar there are lots of brands) , and take some multivitamin tablets then you should be fine with your immune system. And you should start to feel alot better with in a week

Hope you get better soon
and congratulations onyour new house

Reading this topic again has made me realise how dirty money is

They should have hand wash for customers as well, I mean when they give you your change you then normally go and sit down to eat so your hands are dirty from touching the change etc.....

Ashley, I'm sorry you're not feeling well. You've gotten good advise so far. I've been right where you are now at McDonald's and it is really hard to break the habit of putting your hands around your face. Once you become aware of it you realize how often it happens. I'm sorry you didn't get any training. Where is your store located? I'll have my McDonald's boss call your McDonald's boss
! In a properly set up store there's a hand-sanitizer station somewhere in the front counter area. Ours is near the fry station. Find yours and use it constantly. I know you're supposed to be given a hand-washing break every 30 minutes or so. Just be sure and wash them every chance you get, okay? Hang in there and keep us posted on your progress. PM me if you have any McDonald's questions!

I concur with the others. Did they do a strep test. There are the quick ones that results are in 15 minutes and the other one I think takes 48 hrs. When was the last time you have a really good physical checkup-perhaps something us present???
Are you used to talking alot?? Could that be why you are hoarse?? Make sure you are drinking lots of water in case your throat is drying out from the talking!!

I just got back from my doctor and i was placed on 3 antibiotics and given 2 days off from work. He said i could have gotten it from someone at work and my chest didnt sound so good either. I was given one for my breathing, coughing and one that suppose to help with a cold. No one knows what I have so im in the dark here. Im waiting on my blood test so I hope it can helptell me with what is going on with me. Im glad i went to my doctor now for a second opinon. I wasnt even given any medication out there in th ER, plus the fact they didnt seem to know what to do really.

Thats the way many ER's are. They focus on treating the symptoms you have at that moment. You should always try to follow up with your primary care doctor if at all possible after being seen in the ER.

I agree with most of the advice but my reccomendation id to go to your family GP and find out if you have an infection and whether it is viral or bacterial. Antibiotics are only helpful if it is bacterial and actually, it is not good to take antibiotics fr a viral infection. Get a throat culture done!!

I also wonder about the air conditioning there. That can cause dry throats and also allow germs to roam around.
