I'm looking for suggestions for a birthday gift for my grandma who will turn 93 this Sat. She's still very healthy and active and has her own apartment in a local retirement committee. She doesn't need anything! Her four children (including my Mom) usually go in together on big gift, while the grandkids get smaller presents, normally no more that $25. I've thought about getting her a gift card to one of her favorite stores, but some of the other grandkids do that. I'd really like to get her something different. Any ideas? Thanks!

Ooh, tough call, the elderly can be so fussy too.
My grandad is 92 and I usually just ask him straight out what he wants.
Because we live overseas I sometimes send him framed photos.
Last year he bought a computer for my Mum and now they surf the internet together every weekend so I got him some groovy headphones cause he has the volume WAY up.

That's a great idea. When we ask Grandma what she wants, though, we usually get, "Oh, you don't have to get me anything."

I think the photos are a great idea. Framed photos or maybe a small scrapbook of pictures of the whole family. I am sure your grandmother would love something with sentimental value

Also, does she have any hobbies, such as knitting or reading? Maybe she'd like craft supplies or books?
Happy birthday to your grandma!

Hmmm, that's a toughie. Just don't get her one of those "extremely large button" phones. I bought my grandma one a few years ago and she got mad at me!!! She made it a point to tell me that she was old, but not blind

Here are a few ideas that I've considered for my grandma--maybe this will get those creative juices flowing!

Vellux blanket-EVERYONE likes vellux blankets!!!

A magazine subscription to her favorite magazine

An electric blanket

One of those sound machines--my grandma hates what's on the radio these days.

A gift basket with nostalgic candies from her youth

I hope you find the perfect gift

Hmm, I would say either a nice framed photo of the family, a new book, a cool piece of jewelry or a new plant, maybe a herb garden if she likes to cook. My bfriend's grandma just turned 91 yesterday...he brought her pancakes for breakfast and she was delighted!! I think the most important thing to her was having the company.

What about one of those services that allows for a bouquet of flowers to be delivered once a month for 12 months or a box of chocolates each month? My parents got the chocolates once a month for a year for my elderly step-grandmother (they were from a fancy chocolate place and she went and picked them up each month..I don't know if your GM is mobile but I am sure they would deliver them also if not)...

My grandmother once asked for new pillows for Christmas....LOL So, I bought them for her.

I agree with a new book if she likes to read, and the picture idea is a great one.

These are all such great ideas! I'll pass them on to my brothers and cousins too. Now I just have to decide!

When my father in law was alive-We picked up goodies from the grocery store-like a better brand of coffee or how about a cleaning service?

My siblings and I have had this problem for several years for both our parents who are now 91 and are trying to give away their belongings, not acquire more! For their last birthdays I sent my mother a large fruit basket with chocolates, and for my father the fruit with a bottle of wine. My sister did the 'box of chocolates a month' thing. The other thing that they loved was a pair of rose bushes as they are proud of their garden. For their 90th birthday we got together and paid for a portrait photograph of the two of them, in their garden, and arranged for copies to be sent to all their children and grandchildren. They loved that, as we felt there were not enough good photos of them in the family.
