My Mama gave birth 5 weeeks ago and I am not sure what I should be feeding her? Since I found out she was pregnant I have been feeding her milk to drink and Iams kitten food. I notice that her BM's are very runny, should I not be giving her milk? The kittens are now 5 weeks and I notice that they are also eating and drinking her food, is this ok? Thanks, Kimberlee

I stopped giving my cat cows milk becasue of the runny bm's as well as canned food -= gives her the same response. Dry kitten food and water here.

Cats are lactose intolerant so never give them cows milk. Water is just fine. If you want to offer milk, they make milk specifically for cats that you can buy. Now sometimes cats like to lick a drop of milk of your finger when you are eating cereal in the morning and usually that is ok, one of my cats like that, but otherwise don't give it to them.

Iams kitten food is okay (Nutro or another pet store exclusive brand would be better, but Iams is okay), but milk is not okay. Cats can't digest it and it gives them diarrhea. Since nursing takes a lot of nutrition and fluids out of her, it's even more important that she not be given any milk because diarrhea will take a lot out of her. Give her fresh water instead (bottled or filtered unless you have well water).

5 weeks is just about when kittens start experimenting with solid food so if your guys are eating Mom's food then they are right on schedule.

Excellent advice you have gotten. no cows milk. none. you can give momma some KMR or the special cat milk they sell at speciality stores.

Iams kitten is ok food, and you will wanna start offering the little ones canned food!
