I had a look at the furry tarantula thread in Fur Pictures Only because after I'd psyched myself up to do it I thought, `It must be a euphemism - it's not gonna be a picture of a REAL spider...' and then it WAS and I almost broke my arm trying to click on the `back' key...lol

I am utterly terrified of spiders and sharks, but some people are afraid of things like public speaking, driving etc...

Do you have anything you are so afraid of it could almost be called a phobia??

Mine actually has been diagnosed as a phobia, and a silly one

Mottephobia - Moth Phobia

I have done some very irrational things to protect myself from moths. It may seem funny, I can even laugh at it sometimes, but in the moment I feel like I am protecting my life

The other which is no where near as bad and just fear not a phobia is grasshoppers. I run screaming from them, but am not panic stricken like with moths.

I am afraid of spiders but I am not an arachnaphobe. My mother's old boyfriend is the one that got me interested in snakes and lizards, and he had a few tarantulas. I didnt hold them often but when I did I was nervous. It was ok after a while but I still woulnt want to hold one.

I would never hold a scorpion though unless it was 100% sure that there was NO poison in its system at ALL!

Um... I think I dont have something I am mortally afraid of .. ive been thinking but I honestly cant find anything... I am afraid of drowning, and afraid of heights, yet I love high rides and going in the water as longas I have something to help me keep afloat...

Oh I know. I am afraid of needles. Whenever I see a needle on tv. or evenREAD about injections in a story the insides of my arms get sore and my eyes start to twitch. I alway simagine a needle going into my eye when I read about needles. *shivers* Yes.. I am mortally afraid of needles... I can take a shot ok, but having my blood drawn is mortifying, though I do it when I have to anyways.

i am terrified of wasps, bee's and especialluy hornets

if there is a wasp ot hornet near the verandah i won't go out until it's gone.

if one fly's close to or after me i literally go cold and shivery and i feel sick, i know i shoudn't run but every instinct tells me i have to.

my worst memories are once when i went outisde and got bailed up by a hornet, i stayed in the shed for an hour fo it to leave

another time i went to hang out the washing and there must have been twenty damn hornets outside, i seriously nearly wet myself, i ran inside and couldn't stop shaking for ten minutes.

the last and worst encounter was last summer when my husband and i went for a walk, we came across one hornet and for some reason it kept flying after me, we were ages from home and had no car and boy did i freak! i screamed and ran from it and the thing kept chasing me

i felt sick for hours after i got home....

ii guess you could say i have a phobia...don't know what it's called though..

Earwigs - hate the things. They are the only creature that I have a completely irrational fear of. Don't like Hornets, but I don't get that cold shiver when I see them like I do with Earwigs.

My dad is afraid of melons, won't pick one up until it's been 'killed', then he loves to eat them

I have a friend who is afraid of buttons - not sure what she thinks they're going to do to her!

Ha! A girl I used to grow up with - her father had a thing about buttons! He would NOT wear anything with a button on it. All his clothes had zippers, hooks -and-eyes or press-studs. I looked it up on the net and there doesn't seem to be a name for it, although it's very real and more common than you would think...

And, Pandybear, fear of wasps is called `Spheksophobia'.

I am terrified of needles, but after a few shots I was forced to get, it is less of a problem now, but still very strongly there. They always make me vomit.

I am mortally scared of snakes. Watching them on tv even makes me feel sick. When I see them its like my heart stops and I cant move. I am getting chills even thinking about them. It is the big reason I never go camping or canoeing with my family. I am looking for them so constantly that I dont have any fun and I am super paranoid.

I am also scared of touching gross things. I never take my own fish off the hook because I am scared of how slimey it is. It is the same with frogs and lizards. I know lizards are not slimey but they might as well be as far as I am concerned.

I can't think of anything, really. I mean, I can think of situations where I would be afraid. Like, if I were in the ocean and I saw a big shark near me, I would be afraid. But if I were in a diver's cage, or if I were on a big boat or on land, or if the shark were dead on a boat, or if the shark were in an aquarium, or if I knew the shark wasn't a people-eater, then I wouldn't be afraid. That's just an example. I am afraid of things that can harm me or my loved ones.

My husband and father-in-law, however, are deathly afraid of sharks. Never mind that we live in Missouri and thus run a very small chance of actually encountering one.

Oh, I am a little afraid of wasps even though I know I could take a sting or two without it really hurting me.

I'm scared of spiders. I scream and cry and curl up in a little ball. I have to call me boyfriend to come and kill it. Sadly my cat has picked up on my phobia so he runs away from spiders too. It's kind of funny when you think about it.

I'm terrified stiff of spiders. Any size, any type. If I see one in the house, I have trouble sleeping at night. I can't even bring myself to squish one if I don't have a flyswat or some big book to throw onto it. I feel like if my hand gets close, it will jump on me. I used to put a large glass over them to trap them until Shy got home. Now I have Oscar. He thinks spiders are some rare delicacy. He eats every one he can find. He won't even leave a leg behind!!! He will swat at the other cats if they disturb him while he's having his "meal"
My big brave boy keeps mom safe!

Seriously mortally afraid? Nothing really. I used to be afraid of heights when I was younger but putting a couple of roofs on houses cured that. Riding my bike still makes me nervous ... and the cell-phone users do make me afraid for my life!

Spiders? I had to rescue my sister (the arachnophobe) too many times in my youth to even have a twinge. Bugs are cool, and it always surprises me the number of big, strong, men who are reduced to shrieking tremors by bugs
.

Don't like the idea of growing old, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it LOL.
