OK- my cat has been sick, first with an intestinal problem, and now with a "cold". On Saturday night I got all worried and rushed him to an emergency vet, to be told we caught the cold early, there is nothing in his lungs, etc. Which I took to mean, I probably overreacted in rushing him in. So, I guess I am not sure when I should worry, for real???? He's on an antibiotic once every 3 days for the cold, another antibiotic every day until tomorrow for the stomach problem, and some sort of kitty decongestent 2X/day for the next week or so. I don't know, when should I start seeing improvement? He is still sneezing EVERYWHERE, sleeping/hiding a LOT, and generally seems pretty miserable. He will eat Hill's I/D for me, probably around 3/4 can each day plus 1/2 a pouch of a Purina food that is gentle on the stomach (similar to "Tender Vittles" in look/feel, but it's prescription food...) That doesn't seem like much to me, and I haven't seen him drink as much the last couple days as usual. I guess I don't want to overreact again, but I don't want to let him linger if he should be getting better. Thanks!

If he is eating he is OK. He is eating wet and semi-moist? That's good he is getting more water that way so you may not see him drink as much. Try tenting the skin over his back and giving it a gentle twist. If it snaps back into place quickly he is still hydrated. If it is slow to return to normal or if the tent remains then he needs a vet. If he stops eating, has worse or persistant diarrhea, or starts to vomit- he needs a vet. If he starts coughing or having difficulty breathing then he needs a vet. If his nasal discharge gets worse or persists in spite of antibiotics he needs a vet. If he develops swollen red eyes, ocular discharge, or if you can see his third eyelids- he needs a vet. Hope this helps.

Yes thank you. He doesn't seem to be worsening except for the drinking thing-- his symptoms are remaining the same. I will probably see about taking him in for the dehydration, just to be on the safe side.
