I have raised cats all my life and know alot but my 6 yr old is acting strange.
A few days ago I replaced one of the cat dishes with a new one,we had the other one for 7 yrs and it was cracked.
Now my 6 yr old who ate out of it regularly is acting weird. She acts like she has lost her best friend, she's lathargic, and not playing like she was before.
I thought maybe it was the heat but she is drinking.
I have lost one cat to kidney failure and that is my main fear.
But what I am wondering is,by getting rid of the dish, could it have truamatized her? She sniffs at the new dish cause I have it in the same place, drinks a little and walks away.
I can't lose another cat.

I will be taking her to the vet if she doesn't start acting normal soon, but am terrified of what they will say.

Hmmm, it's hard to say whether it's from the new bowl or not. Is it the same type of bowl (made from the same material)?
Or it could be a coincidence and your kitty just happened to get sick at the same time you bought the bowl.
Though I agree she should see a vet if she doesn't perk up very soon.

I am sorry for the loss of your other kitty.

I suppose she could be stressed over the new dish....it would be a rather extreme reaction, I think. Can you give her something especially tasty in her new dish so she associates something good with it?

Then again, maybe it is a coincidence. But I think if she's sick, you'll notice other things than just the rejection of the new dish. Better to take her to the vet and reassure yourself than to make yourself sick with worry.

Though I have to say that Jamie is a bit weird with his dishes . He wants one kind of dish for dry food, another for canned food, a certain type for cat milk, and another for water.

My baby is fine now. Rama is back to her old self once again,I'm glad to say. It turned out she had a bad reaction to some flea stuff my husband gave her.I'm not sure why she was the only one,it had no weight allowance on it but she got a bad reaction from it.
She is doing great now, back to hissing at her brothers and bouncing off the walls.
Thanx for your concern for her and I.

Which flea stuff did she have the reaction to?
