A couple of days ago my parent's brought home a small, stray kitten that had been hanging about my father's work. She is a delightful little beast until she spies a dog. I was visiting their home at the time, and had with me my lumbering, good natured 9 mo. old Lab Boo, who loves cats and plays with mine regularly. He was not pushy at all and when on his first approach the kitten hissed and spat, he simply turned around and walked away.
The kitten was curious and would follow him about, but on several occasions the kitten actually charged up to him hissing and smacking when the dog was lying there minding his own business. I'm sure that were the kitten allowed to get to know Boo, things would be fine. He would be the perfect dog to acclimate cat to dog due to his wonderful nature but we don't live there! Instead, my parents are left with a hissing kitten, and two rambunctious Pyr mix pups to raise (the pups are outside most of the time or are crated inside).
Tips/hints that I could pass along? Fortunately I've missed the problem of introductions at my house with my three cats and four dogs.
