Hi All,
So my husband and I moved into our first house this weekend. I can't believe we are homeowners! We bought a 1915 cottage in a really nice old neighborhood. Its very exciting for us. My brother in law came down to help us move, and when he went to check his email Sunday night, we had our first quiet moment together. It was sweet, like a "we did it!" moment with a hug.

Then we both noticed a weird scratching sound . . .

We looked where it was coming from, and saw a little pair of white fur-legs swinging around in the air in the fireplace. Blossom was crawling up the fireplace! and Billy was watching her! I think he was learning from her mistake. Gavin moved quick and gently pulled her down. She was covered, ear to belly, in soot--except for a small white patch on her face. She looked at us like, "what? I didnt do anything. You can't prove anything!"

The soot was literally dripping off her, so we put her in the sink and rinsed her down--she didnt complain. But her fur already absorbed some of the soot. So now we have a white Billy and a gray Blossom.

It was hilarious! I will never forget those little legs swinging around the fireplace.

You need to take pics of her!

When we got Abby, the first thing she did was head for the fireplace. The way our flue is, she can't get up it very far, thank God! I bought a screen not too long after. I wanted to get her out of the habit. I didn't need her running for it when we built a fire.

Oh that is hilarious! Warning- get a screen for your fireplace! Cosette is obsessed with getting in there and playing in the soot!

Congrats on moving in to your first house together
That's an exciting milestone!

I can just imagine the scene!!
But yes, get a screen asap!! Kitties seem so fascinated by fireplaces. Congratulations on your new home; best wishes for a happy life together there! We at TCS are all happy for you!

Of course you have white cats.

I once had a fireplace that I didn't use but Petunia (RIP) just became totally obsessed with it. Since it had a screen on it, I wasn't worried. Then I started hearing scratching noises in it and realize what had fascinated her. Now this was one of those times where the brain did not function. Instead of putting her in another room, I let her watch while I fiddled with the flue. In one glorious moment, this bird comes crashing down spewing soot all over me and the cat. It then began flying all over the house. I tossed the cat in another room and surveyed the damage. A terrified bird, an ice-blue carpet covered in soot, and a cat having a fit in another room. Took a couple of hours to get the bird out and days to get rid of the soot.

Congratulations on the new house. I'm sure you will be very happy there.

I hope you are laughing about that now. It sounds pretty funny--though it wouldnt have been at the time.
What was especially funny was that my brother in law couldnt tell them apart--he just called them the "mini white panthers" Now you can definitely tell who's who!

Yep, it was one of those Kodak moments.

At least you didn't have both of yours in the mess.
