I think my cat may have diarrhea...

Last night my cat kept me up all night. She sat on the floor and meowed (she's a bengal, so it's very loud). I opened the door so she could leave my bedroom and she came in and out but constantly meowing. She wouldn't stay in bed or anything.

I didn't think much of it because recently she hasn't been very good at going to sleep. She's 4 years old and for years she has gone to bed (sleeps in my bed) when I say it's time and stays there most of the night. In the last few months she has started acting up. Won't get in the bed and if she does will get out and play or want to leave the room. Last night was different though. For some reason this morning I checked her litterbox and there is a lot of very soft mounds of #2. There's even little drip marks on the bathroom floor. This is not normal for her at all.

Most people say if cats are sick they get quiet and go off somewhere... is it at all normal for a cat to get very vocal if she's sick? My cat is very vocal all the time, but not normally at bedtime. This literally went on all night long, I got maybe 1 hour of sleep.

Should I take her to the vet? Is there something I can give her for the diarrhea?

My Loki also a Bengal is that way when he is not feeling well plus he anounces when he has to go to the kitty loo!!!

have you made any chnages to her food - did you feed her something you normally do not - could she have gotten into anything?????

Now, watch you baby over the next 24 hrs. and make sure she drinks to compensate the loss of liquids. If she dosen't show signs of improvement take her in for a check-up.

Thanks. I haven't changed her food and I wasn't home for a day and half, so she didn't eat anything new (she will eat anything). There really isn't anything for her to get into, that I can think of. Sometimes it's hard to tell if she's drinking her water or playing in her water... lol. I'll keep an eye on her.

Hell603, this may sound strange... my bengals dad was named Loki. I notice that you're from Central Jersey and I bought her at a cattery in Central Jersey. I wonder if you own Ripley's dad??

Don't think so, he was a rescue from a breeder and I got him when he was 7 months old and already neutered!!

You mentioned that you were away for 1 1.2 days - Could it be stress from you being away ???

Anyway, you can try adding a little fiber to her diet - Canned pumpkin. See if she'll eat it - some like it, some don't.

Hope your baby feels better soon!!!!!!

She's used to me being gone on weekends, so I don't think it's stress. I will try the canned pumpkin. This is odd, in the 3.5 years I've had she's never been sick.

There are so many different causes of diahrrea. I second the above post and if it's not much improved in 24 hours, make a vet appointment.

It may be a intestinal upset. I'd take her off of food for 24 hours and make sure she's drinking liquids. You might want to try giving her some acidophlis liquid. To put the good intestinal bacteria back in her.
If no improvement-like the others said take her to the vet because cats can become dehydrated rather quickly. Check the skin on the back of her neck by pincing it. If it goes back slowly then she is dehydrated. Also check her gums for moisture. If her mouth is dry that also says she's dehydrated.
Just want to mention that I believe because bengals have some wild blood in them they really need to be fed a diet closer to what they would eat in the wild. After you have her checked by a vet I would consider swithcing her to an all meat diet. Cooked at first untill she gets better then raw.

Thanks everyone. She had gone all over the carpet when I got home from work. So she's definitely sick, she has NEVER done anything like that in the 3.5 years I've had her. I called the vet. She said to get her stage II baby food (meat only) or boil some hamburger and rice and give her that. If she's not better in the next day or two, I need to take her in. So that's what I'm going to try.

Bengalbabe, I'm going to make sure she's not dehydrated.

Just be sure the baby food has no onions or garlic in the ingredients. And the less ingrediants and more bland the better.

I ended up taking Ripley to the vet today. I found a place that other's had heard good things about (I haven't needed a vet since I moved). It's a cat only animal hospital. They needed a stool sample and will get back to me on that tomorrow. In the meantime, I have to give her an antibiotic (Metronid B 80/mg) once a day and they gave me I/D food to give her. Unfortunately, my cat is impossible when it comes to shooting meds in her mouth. I can't even do it, so I really can't ask my friend to watch her while I'm away for the next 4 days. So I think I'm going to board her at the cat hospital. At least I know she'll get her meds and the doctor and nurses were so nice and really loved Ripley. I hate taking her out of her home, but I think this will be best for her. I wouldn't want to come home to diarrhea all over the house and her playing in it or getting more sick from it. And I don't think my friend will be able to giver the meds, so this is best. Pricey though $44 a day. Oh well, she's worth it!

I also feel bad for my boyfriend's cat. Nitz was supposed to come here and hang out with Ripley while we were away. They love spending time together
.
