The Boy Scouts exclude "avowed homosexuals" from its ranks [that includes a ban on both gay troop leaders and gay scouts], maintaining they violate the Scouting oath to be "morally straight" and the Scouting law to be "clean." (Reuters, 11/29/00)
Gregg Shields, national spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America, said homosexuality does not fit into the group's oath, in which Scouts pledge to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. "An avowed homosexual wouldn't be a role model for those values," Shields said. (Washington Post, 7/6/00)[/i]http://www.hatecrime.org/subpages/boyscouts.html
As long as the situation doesn't involve one of those scary homosexuals!!
Just not if you think you might like other boys.
Wow. So true. LGBT (Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgendered...this is the most PC term and the term used by the community, with which I am closely affiliated as a 'straight ally') people, boys and men specifically in the case we are discussing, are NO DIFFERENT from other men and boys, except that they are attracted to the same sex. Some of the most brilliant minds of our time have been LGBT. Every community, every church, every organization (yes, even Christian churches and the military), and every place you will ever go, you share with and are interacting with this community. The whole attitude is born out of nothing but pure and simple ignorance. It is born out of this ludicrous and outdated patriarchal society which dictates outdated gender roles and outdated, trivial morals. No, you can't 'catch' homosexuality like it's a disease. No, they're not all sex-obsessed perverts. No, they're not tearing apart your organization and lowering the morals of said group. These are just normal, happy, healthy people that happen to be different in just ONE trivial respect that isn't even any of your business anyway. So, I strongly feel that any organization, such as the Boy Scouts, that refuses to accept the above, is an organization that neither I nor my family can ever support. The policy the Boy Scouts have is defunct and born of complete and total fear and hatred that has absolutely no rational basis and no actual good reason to exist that can be proved. It's all based on a refusal to be open minded and welcoming. So no, I don't want my kids doing Boy Scouts. I stand by my decision to never align myself or my kin with this group.
