Hello friends

As some of you may know on Tuesday last week I was told at work that I am at risk of redundancy.... I had my meeting on Thursday with the Human Resources department and a) there is another job at another office that they are putting me forward for for an interview or b) I decide to leave the company and receive a nice redundancy package.

So anyway, they are really looking after me and I am happy to be put forward for this other PA postion. I am going to keep my options open though and have since applied for a few jobs and I also have an appointment at 3pm tomorrow at a secretarial recruitment agency. I think at the end of the day, after 4 years I would like to take the money and run... but of course first I need another job.

I only have 4 days left at work. My leaving lunch is on Thursday. I am being paid up until the end of August but my boss has said I can stay at home and sort out what I want to do rather than stay in the office for my notice period. He is on holiday most of August too... so really, I am in a good position. A decision has to be made by 31st August.... so a lot can happen until then.

My positive thinking for the week ahead - I just waxed my legs, had a lovely shower, applied a face mask, painted my toes and ate some ice cream!
This will be a good week, I am going to be positive and I am not going to get upset going into work tomorrow knowing that I am leaving behind the last 4 years... this is the next step, a new life and the kick up the arse I probably need!

Thanks for reading, I just wanted to write this down so I can read it when I feel sorry for myself!

It is hard to leave a place after 4 years. I left my job after 10 years and spent my last 3 weeks crying while I said goodbye to everyone.

With the stress you have been having lately with the attacks going on so close to your current workplace, I honestly think that this will turn out to be a positive thing for you. It will be wonderful for you to be in a different environment. It sounds liek you need a change right now!

It sounds like you are going into the week with a wonderful attitude! I am sending you good vibes to finD a wonderful new job by the end of August!

What a great attitude you have!, with that kind of positive attitude, I'm sure you'll be able to handle anything that comes your way!

But good luck just the same!

Does this mean they are fazing out your position? I will send positive vibes your way, in hopes you find a perfect new job.

Yes... there are 3 PA's for 3 directors. The board of directors have pushed for 2 PA's as it is costing them over £100K a year to keep the 3 of us. I can understand why they chose me though - both the remaining PA's are more qualified than I currently am thus, they both generate more revenues than I do....

Thanks guys
I start the week as I mean to go on! I am also tempted to change my screen saver at home to - I WILL GET A NEW AND BETTER JOB!

That's it. I didn't cry in front of anyone at the office - after I went home on Tuesday my boss commented to one of the other PA's (my friend) that he couldn't believe how well I took it... after the meeting on Thursday also, the lady told me she had tissues ready just in case! It's only when I got home that it sunk in.. all these thoughts of the past 4 years.. the little things that I will miss.

But, I will be the first to admit, I have been getting bored and stagnent over the past year or so. Maybe they are doing me a favour?

Actually, this happened with my last job too. I was there for exactly 4 years to the day and I also got made redundant...... conincidence/ironic but I think in future, I should stick with 3 years!

Gilly,

I know that you are sad about leaving where you are currently and scared about facing something new. But I have this gut feeling from reading your posts that you are going to come out much better than where you were at a couple of weeks ago. You are going to have the time to get yourself back together after the bombing incidents and you will be moving to a new direction. I heard so much desperation in your words, so much that you needed out. I think you are being led to an opportunity that you can seize with both hands.

Sending you absolutely positive vibes. I know you have the strength to get to your new life.

Oh, Gilly, you are in a very difficult position! You are doing so well at keeping an upbeat attitude! Prayers that you will find the right position, to keep you happy and keep Guin in catnip!

You know, I agree with this. Perhaps you'll find a job closer to home and not so close to the railway stations. I was worried about you working so close to where all of that was happening. Look at this as a brand new opportunity. I know it isn't fun to go job hunting. God knows I hate it, myself, but once you've found your new job, it's going to work out so much better for you, I feel it inside.

Gilly,

I wish you the best of luck! We can go through this together as I am leaving somewhere I have been for 17 yrs on Friday (my choice, though). I am fortunate that I am taking a little time to think about what I am going to do with the next 22 yrs

You will find something

All the best, Gilly, and tons of positive thoughts! It seems as if this is happening as well as such things can, a lot of the credit to you.

Good luck Gilly! What does a PA do? Maybe if you were becoming bored, it means you will find an opportunity to find something more exciting! Sending good vibes!!
