Ok, this is NOT about fleas I promise!! LOL.

I just wanted to write about how I feel so bad for this cat. She is obviously not well taken care of. I mean, first of all she had fleas and the dumb guy didn't even know.

I look at her and I see so many problems. First of all, he said to me when he brought her over "I combed her and clipped her nails". WHAT?!!!!! I combed her yesterday and gave her Advantage, and I SWEAR her fur already looks more healthy and white. Her nails are like TALONS. They look so creepy and click everywhere, and I'm sure that's why he said she had "sensitive skin". Well no wonder! She's gouging herself with her talons every time she scratches herself, and scratching herself excessively because she has fleas!!

She also has a totally bald patch under her chin. I wonder why - do you think maybe it's cause they have a plastic water bowl for her? He gave me this plastic bowl that you can put a water bottle screwed in so it constantly fills with water. The bowl is full of that orangy muck from not washing it, and who knows how old the plastic bottle is!!
I immediately dumped it out and gave her a nice glass water bowl with fresh filtered water.

She has the HUGEST belly, kinda like my old cat did. a huge paunch that swings and hangs down. My friends came over last night and said she looked like she has a tumor.

She also kind of walks funny, and I can't tell if that's because of her belly or something else.

Anyways, it just makes me mad. She's sooooo sweet and quiet and calm and doesn't fight anything I do to her (what I had to do with her fleas, etc.), and my friend picked her up yesterday and laid her on her back to comb for fleas and she was totally calm, patient, didn't meow or try to get away.

She actually made me cry because I feel so bad for her, and also because she doesn't fight it - you know? She's just so accepting and sweet.

Anyways, just had to rant here. thanks.

Or maybe she is wormy? Did your vet check for worms? I have heard that fleas can carry tapeworms.

I'm supposed to have her until before August 15 sometime. I didn't take her to the vet b/c she's not mine.....Plus I don't want to traumatize her anymore. I am going to ask the dude when the last time he took her to the vet was, and i'm going to suggest to him he start using a glass dish for water. She probably has a variety of things, including worms.....

Journey, what a great opportunity for you to teach him about responsible care. Don't get angry; teach. Yes, it's so very hard to see a cat in need, but if you 'spruce' her up, and get her on her feet, so to speak (clipped nails, flea treatments, brushed, using a good water dish, et cetera...), you can show him by example how it needs to go. And if you do take her to the vet, "bill" him for that; ask him to pay, especially if there are worms and/or other issues.

Thank goodness she has you to take care of her. I have to agree maybe he's just the typical male and didn't really know how to properly take care of her. You will hopfullly without even having to talk to him show him the better way to take care of his animal. I'm just thankful she has you to help her out. She is going to be so much more happy with proper grooming and some fresh water and food. Good For You!! Love, Hope

After I tell him off for the flea situation, I'm going to suggest he take her to the vet and suggest the water bowl thing.

I notice she's still biting herself today (24+ hours after Advantage) but don't see any fleas. Do you think she's just biting the old sore spots or is there still fleas I wonder?

Hi, Journey. I know exactly how angry you are; I've been in similar situations. But I've also discovered that if I simply talk to someone rather than "tell him off" and teach him, then there is no excuse for the next time. And the next time, rest assured, I'd give him a good ol "talking to." But people will listen better if presented with opportunities rather than judgment, and I think that the best hope for this wonderful cat is you talking nicely and teaching him. It'll be hard, no doubt or question...but it would be best for the kitty if you could teach.

But just so you know, I understand completely about yelling. I often want to. And if I ever find out who did what was done to Pengy, rest assured that it will be a tad more than yelling...

Oh I wouldn't really "tell him off" or yell, I'm totally not that type of person at all. I'm quite diplomatic and will tell him in a diplomatic way! I wouldn't want the message to be lost
. Don't worry!

I have his cell phone number that I left 3 messages on and he hasn't called me back. But he is on the island right now which is long distance, so that's why he probably hasn't called. I honestly don't think he's going to leave her, if he does I don't know what I'm going to do - but I'm trying not to think of that option.

Does anybody know about my biting after Advantage question? I am thinking about bringing her to the groomers anyways just to give her a relieving bath, but I'm afraid it would affect the Advantage....I just hate to see her biting. I looked through her fur with a comb and didn't see anything except still the black flakes, but no live fleas....
