Thank you so much! He's definitely a keeper
I always tease him that he never smiles like that unless he's holding something dead (like a fish or deer).

Some bad news. The shark weighed in at 360 lbs. The state record is 375 lbs. If we could've weighed him right out of the water, Bradley would have the state record. However, they had to go an hour out of town to a truck stop to use one of their scales and the stop was closed! So they had to drive all over to find a scale that would work and by the time they did (4 hours later) the shark had lost so much water and blood that the weight was way down
But it was still an awesome catch and it makes the beach a bit safer to swim in.
Mind you, the record was set in 1974, so it's cool that he came SO close 31 years later!

And what'd they do with the shark? Well, Bradley cut out the jaws, so I'm sure they'll end up on our mantle one day
. They sold the meat to this guy here in Savannah who makes a living out of selling shark meat. So nothing went to waste
I'm so proud of my man!

Mind you in australia "flake" is actually shark meat
Fran, I honestly felt sorry for it too at first. I don't like to see dead animals. However, this is a VERY dangerous shark swimming in VERY shallow water (every day) that is VERY close to our beach swimmers. While it is sad to see, it really is helping to make our beaches safer.

sounds like my husband except it's usually a fish or a kangaroo, i don't like it though but i'm not about to tell him to stop, it makes him happy.

he's an execetive and gets very stressed too, he says it's his way to relax and get back to nature.

i do love fishing though, especially spearfishing, it's awesome and i feel like a huntress

Sorry that I didn't post this in Fur Pictures mods. I figured since the shark is not a pet and has no fur whatsoever, it was safe in the Lounge

That's one scary looking lemon shark! It's a good thing that the swimmers are safe, now. It would have been just awful if this big guy had attacked someone before he was caught.
I completely understand why he needed to be caught. It's not like you can have a conversation with the shark and politely ask him to leave the area and not attack any swimmers. Catching him now is much better than waiting to see if he attacked any swimmers and THEN catching him.

As I said earlier, this shark was in shallow water that feeds directly into our beach. A 9' lemon shark posed a serious threat to the adults and children who swim in our waters every day.
Yes, it was a beautiful creature, but a deadly threat is a deadly threat.

I know nothing about it, Amy..But what about catching him live and releasing him to a zoo or other facility??? I am torn. The picture makes me sad but I do realize that hunters do still hunt for meat and don't waste any of it...And it seems like a very good reason for catching him....

I don't think anyone on that dock had any of the appropriate equiptment whatsoever that would be needed to transport the shark.
Trust me, Bradley is a biologist and does ALL of his hunting/fishing using very ethical guidelines. He absolutely did this for the good of the community. We both value wildlife, but there is a point where you have to put the safety of the community above all else.

That got me laughing!! No, actually, I *think* they're called lemon sharks b/c of the slightly yellowish color on their stomachs. I wouldn't know how they taste b/c I don't eat shark

O-H-I-O!
I just caught this thread! That is one HUGE creature! How proud of Bradley you must be! He looks very satisfied. And what a moment that must have been for the both of you. Kinda scary mantle-piece though

Thanks Courtney
Yeah, I'm one proud chica!!!

Well, we won't have the entire shark's head (like you see in restaurants and stuff) over the mantle- he gave the body to a man who will sell the meat. But he DID cut out the jaws. He's working on cleaning them and eventually they will go on a big plaque (which will be waaaaay up high so the kitties can't get hurt by the teeth!).

That is an AWESOME catch! Congrats

You are right about putting the jaw up high.

Our kids bought shark jaws in Cozumel a couple of years ago. Our cats were going nuts trying to get at the jaws. You would have thought they were made of catnip! Now the jaws must have lost their appeal. The cats leave them alone.

Once again congrats, and job well done saving people from that shark.

Bobbie

(Who agrees that Bradley is a keeper. He is cute!)

Thank you so much Bobbie; that was all very nice of you to say
I'm going to have to show this thread to Bradley
.

LOL, that is funny about your shark jaws. It'll be interesting to see how the kits react. It'll be even funnier when we buy a house and can mount Bradley's deer head (named "Brutus"
). It'll probably freak the poor babies out!
