Hi,
I'm responding after reading cyr55, He was off a little about the 3 cats and the weight issue. We do have 3 cats Stimpy who is 5yrs old weight 11 pounds, perfect weight Ren who is 4 years old is the one with the weight problem he's 16 pounds. Than my little girl Mary who weights 7.7 pounds is not to skinny she's just right. I've taken these guys to vet's yearly, there in perfect health no worms nothing i've gotten them tested while they were getting there teeth cleaned. I thought ren might have diabeties bc of him being 6 pounds over weight, but he's doesn't. So I feed all three of them Iams Dry food once a day. I put 1 1/2 cups of dry food which lasts them all day. When i get home from work i give them all three i split a 1/2 can of wet food. There very spoiled, active playful, loveable cats. the only thing is is that I don't understand why ren has gained the weight. Mary eats alot if she doesn't finish the wet food the other 2 eat it. She loves her dry food. Ren doesn't eat treats the other 2 love them. So anyways How can i have ren loose the weight yet not having the other 2 loose the weight. what i was thinking is maybe change there food to diet iams. the only difference is is the fat intake.... your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Well, first is really overweight? You can't really put an average in pounds on a cat. They are all different just like people. Is he obese as in you can't feel his ribs or does he just have a little pouch?
You can put them all on the light dry food, but then you must watch all of them to make sure that they are not dropping weight really quick or the other 2 do not loose any. When you have multiple cats, the only way for one to loose weight is to seperate them during feeding times, or just give them food at certain times of the day. Of course then you have to stand over them to make sure the heavier one isn't eating the other 2's food. If he is not in danger with obesity, I would just keep an eye on him to make sure he's not going to get to a dangerous weight.
