Has anyone's cat ever had a false pregnancy?

We just came from thet vet, and they think she is having a false pregnancy from what they are seeing and feeling. There are no kittens pallitable, but her body is showing the physical signs, and her behavior as such.

I made an appointment to have her spayed on Tuesday, but I'm not sure if I trust the vet without doing an x-ray...?

Please be honest, what would you do?

Under a stack of blueberry waffles.
If she looks hugely pregnant, but no kittens can be felt by the vet (who's most likely been feeling for kittens a great deal more than the average person), then it's very likely that it's a false pregnancy. I'd go ahead with the spay...

Jean...we've had a few in our rescue that we SWORE were pregnant (showed the same signs as yours) and when the time came..they never had any kittens. So yes..it does happen. Definately have her spayed and then..if you still want the experience...head to your local animal shelter or rescue and offer to foster a pregnant cat.

MYSELF FOR PEACE OF MIND I WOULD CHECK WITH ANOTHER VET. MY BEST FRIEND (NOT HER CAT) SAW A GYNECOLOGIST AS SHE THOUGHT SHE MIGHT BE PREGNANT. HE TOLD HER IT WAS A TUMOR AND COULD BE CANCER-TO CALL THE HOSPITAL AND ARRANGE FOR SURGERY TO REMOVE IT. SHE WENT FOR A SECOND OPINION AND SHE WAS PREGNANT AND HAS A 4 YEAR OLD SON NOW NOT A TUMOR. MOST LIKELY YOUR VET IS RIGHT BUT BE SURE. AS FOR FALSE PREGNANCY--MY VET CALLED IT "PSEUDOPREGNANCY. WHEN OUR OTHER CAT WAS PREGNANT THIS OLD ONE KATIE DID A PSEUDO AND THAT WAS WONDERFUL BECAUSE THEY GET ALL THE SIGNS EVEN THE MILK EVENTUALLY BUT NO LABOR OR DELIVERY....AND THE REAL MOM COULD NOT PRODUCE ENOUGH MILK FOR EVEN ONE KIT SO SHE ABANDONED HER FOUR. KATIE NURSED THEM, EVEN NURSED ONE UNTIL IT WAS 2 YEARS OLD!!!!!
