Under the cats, mostly.
That really sucks. I'm sure you'll be glad to see the back of them! Our neighbours upstairs are a bit like that - only they're not moving... they're just rebuilding the inside of the flat (They've been at it for months now) which means a lot of heavy stomping about, dragging heavy furniture, crashes and thuds... AND the loud music at all hours of the day and night. Last night they didn't stop "working" until 2am, by which time I was ready to go up and throttle the pair of them. They put on loud music and then go and have a blazing row on the balcony outside where the whole world can hear them.... like, why not put the music on and stay inside where you can't hear eachother and we can't hear you either. That way, you both get to yell, you don't understand what's being said, so there's less ammo for another row. Some people don't seem to think, do they? Oh well... like you said, they're moving soon, so you can sette down to some peace and quiet soon - I hope your new neightbours are nicer!!

Missy&SpikesMom: Don't get me started on loud pipes
. I've nothing against Harleys per se, although I've never seen one I really like the looks of, (or that's halfway comfortable to sit on for that matter) --- but why the dickens do they all think they have to take the nice, quiet, stock pipes off and put on straight pipes or pull the packing? They sound FINE with the stock pipes but Harley riders seem to think that unless you can hear them coming from a mile away then they're too "wimpy."

, not all people who live in trailers are trailer trash, and not all people who don't, aren't
(We lived in one for almost 13 years.) Although it does sound as though your neighbors have necks of the crimson persuasion. Rather like the ones who lived "down the hill" from us (and in a house, by the way
) who for some reason best known only to themselves wanted to regale the neighborhood with their karaoke skills from 10pm to 4 in the morning. Since we were uphill it was like being in an ampitheatre, unfortunately, however, without the option of leaving the show early. At least our neighbor across the creek here only plays his gospel music station in the afternoons for a couple of hours while he's pottering around in his shop after he gets home from work.

You really have a way with words...

Thanks for all the lovely messages everyone
Coming on here is a nice sanctuary. I'm just sorry so many of you have to live near cheese-heads too.

And yes Susan, I'll be there, bells jingling, to wave them off

It's ironic that my landlord left a message today wondering if we were going to re-new our lease for another year..today we went looking for duplexes, don't know what they are going for yet, but it is cheaper than average to live here so we will have to do some thinking about it being worth our while to stay..
It's going to be hard to find a place that will allow me to have 3 cats.

I feel for all of you very much with loud neighbors. I had a problem not too long ago with the family living above us, they were so loud and just driving me crazy.
I used to bang on the ceiling, called the police a few times and complained to the landlord several times. Thankfully, they moved out two months ago and I'm just loving the peace and quietness now. I totally understand what you are all going thru.

I live in a pretty decent neighborhood. . THe people that live on the left side of a duplex accross the street and two houses down though are the biggest rednecks I have ever freaking seen. They have the SLUTTIEST looking daughters! I mean, those kids have to be.. 12 and they look like experienced prostitutes. They have a motorcycle which the guy drives loudly up and down the street all day (and extremely fast even though there are about a dozen children on this street, four or so who are under five.... then they have a four wheeler which they drive loudly all over the place, but they dont relaly make a whole lot of noise at night which is good. The one thing that has been annoying the hell out of me this month is they keep setting off fireworks even though its way past fourth of july!!! I had my cats outside on their leashes yesterday, and they had a tent in the backyard and were probably going to have some kind of party, when the girls started setting of fireworks in the front yard!!!!! My cats freaked out, all the dogs on the street started barking, and the dogs that are in the boarding kennel down the road all started freaking out! Oooh I just awnted to go over there and just say "What the hell is your ****** problem? " I freaked otu the other day because I thought someone was tapping at my window, and I went outside to look and it was only them setting off fire works

( I Have been very paranoid recently and thought someone rang the doorbell and tapped on the kitchen window, because I keep thinking of ssome normal, brown haired balding guy with a pink pinstriped shirtg, a pocket protector, and khaki slacks, but with the grayest, most peircing eyes looking at me through my window *I believe it is begging me to write a story about it so I shall*)

I'm not entirely sure why I described the property "Managers" as trailer trash...sorry about the conotation. Yeah...red necks may be a better word. Wanna hear something funny?? The house we purchased is a MINI-HOME in a TRAILER PARK! It's beautiful - I cannot WAIT til Sept 16 when we get to start moving in and getting the HECK outta dodge! I hope my new neighbors aren't into karaoke

I really feel for all of you with loud, obnoxious neighbors. I'm lucky enough to live in a two family with a great neighbor on the first floor. I wouldn't say our nextdoor neighbor is obnoxious, but definitely annoying (also a little creepy!)

I've posted before about how he likes to watch me cut the grass. He's retired and his wife still works, so he's mostly just bored and lonely. But, based on some things he's said, he's also somewhat of a "dirty, old man." He recently told me how much he'd like to see my sleek body in his swimming pool.
Doesn't bother me too much because, for him to say that, he clearly needs glasses.

My one neighbor has a couple of Harley's with the "illegal" pipes too!!
Plus the house in in a really stupid location so he has a really step driveway and you can always hear them coming and going. Plus one of the dogs (both are always chained up) is scared of storms and will whine for hours.. And he doesn't seem to understand that people would like to sleep later than 6 am as he is always working on some motorcyle project!!
Living in a rural farm area I also have to deal with the farming equipment going up and down the road. The large dairies now run around the clock so they can be going down the road with the tractors and wagons at midnight!!! These farms are over a mile away so they can make noise for lots of people.
As we don't have air conditioning we sleep with the windows open so it can get pretty noisy at times.
I guess we all have our complaints!!

We have a couple of neighbors with loud motorcycles. They aren't as bad as some of the others on this post but irritating anyway. One likes to take off early on Saturday morning. The other will leave his idling in the front street for 30 minutes to an hour. Times I wish I could do some target practice.

Do you live in my neighborhood?
We've got 20-somethings up the street who four-wheel around with booze in their hand, and our neighbor has a loud bike he takes out every Sunday.

My old aparment was hell the last year I was there. Some weird unemployed folks with a developmentally challenged 18-19 yr old son moved in my four-block (I was 2nd story, their door was at the bottom of the stairs). They had a glass door where the boy stood watching everything that went on... and then stood out in the parking lot loudly gossiping about it. When he effectively told the entire complex that my roomie brought a computer in our apt, I had to complain to the landlord... at that point it was a security issue.

The man who lived beneath me was nearly deaf and had his TV on really loud all the time... but when I got a new TV and left it on at a decent level to entertain the birds while I was at work, he called and complained to the landlord. After that, a bunch of kids who played music LOUDLY at all hours also moved in next door to me... I got a "Final Notice" in the mail one Monday about noise "I" had been making over the weekend- when I was out of town! He refused to believe it was the new tenants. I emailed him and told him that and he said "it must've been your house-sitter"... my house sitter came by for 15 minutes, and was his 8-month pregnant cousin! I lived quietly there for three years and I guess I'm a bad seed who decided to suddenly become an obnoxious neighbor the last 2 months I lived there. Two weeks later someone finally called the cops on the new people, who invited them into their apartment where they were actively listening to loud music and smoking pot at the time. They were evicted and my friend's dad insisted the landlord (his nephew) apologize to me... he didn't.

But he did tell my friend to thank me for leaving the apartment so clean.

My old complex had a laundry room with only two working washers and two dryers. People would put their clothes in and go back to their apartments, and leave their clothes there for hours tying up the machine. I would go down there to check every hour or so, and if they left clothes in the washer long enough, I would put them in the dryer for them figuring at least I could get mine washed even if I had to hang them up to dry. Several times I would start my wash and go back down less than an hour later and someone would have already thrown them all over the dirty lint-laden table.
I eventually gave up and just went to the coin laundry up the street but I always managed to get there at the same time this same huge family of Mexicans arrived... it creeped me out because the men would sit and stare at me the whole time and I couldn't understand what they were saying! I'm so glad we bought a house with washer/dryer connections!

It's just annoying because we have a booking sheet. It sounds good in theory but some people book lots of time and then don't use it. It's really frustrating if you have a pile of washing and the next 3 days are all booked up, but no-one seems to be doing any washing!!!

I went next door and asked If they were going to wash, and if not, could I use the machines? It was just the stupid son at home, who had no idea where his mother was or if it was ok for me to take the time... I have sure never seen him doing the laundry.

In your situation, I would just about REBEL! If she's not there, and no laundry's being done, walk your happy butt down there and do yours!
That's so rude... to block off the time and then not even use it. I would complain to the management, and get the booking sheet removed! First come, first served!

So I'm sitting here, thinking about how I should go to bed pretty soon because I've got to be up at 7am tomorrow morning when I suddenly hear something. Music. Not just a beat either. I can actually hear my inconsiderate jerkoff neighbors music so well that I can hear the LYRICS! THE LYRICS! MY GOD! Not only that, but the people who moved in right above me last week are apparently moving ELEPHANTS around their apartment because all I hear are really loud bangs, followed by more bangs and then what can only be people walking around with cement blocks glued to the bottoms of their feet.

IT'S MIDNIGHT PEOPLE! STOP BEING SO RUDE AND THINK OF SOMEONE BESIDES YOURSELVES FOR ONCE!

What's worse is that I can pretty much guarantee that the music will go on until at LEAST 3am. I think I'm going to completely freak out.

These stories are scaring me. Hubby and I are moving into an new complex next week. We used to live in a small apartment attached to our landlord's house - a sort of in-law apartment. My landlord was very quiet, except for his occaisonal spats with his roommate. We did have a rude neighbor that would call animal control to complain about the dog that belonged to my landlord's roommate. He would tell the officer that the dog was barking for hours. This dog was right outside my bedroom window, and he was the quietest dog EVER. Rude neighbor would also call the police when landlord's roommate's kids would play in the backyard. Eventually landlord put up a fence, but one afternoon I saw rude neighbor wandering around the backyard. Our new apartment is in a complex, and this will be our first experience living in an apartment complex. I keep to myself, and am hoping that the neighbors do the same. I have a quick temper, and will be miserable if I have obnoxious neighbors. I don't mind noise once in a while, but consistent noise and rudeness is intolerable. I hope you all have better look with your rude neighbors, and here's hoping there aren't any near my new apartment.

- I just have to laugh because I'm going through the same thing and the only thing holding my mind intact is the sweet thought that these monsters are moving soon.
