I have baby-fine stick straight hair... Although that's the type that's the MOST prone to damage, I used to abuse it like no other, perm AND color. I quit both several years ago and depend on the proper cut instead. Now I only use a bit of leave-in conditioner and it's soft as a baby's hind
One thing you might want to consider is turning down the shower heat when you're washing your hair. Not too many people think about that but it's added damage that you can easily avoid!
Someone gave me a two-stepper Nexxus Botanoil Treatment Shampoo and KERApHIX Creme Reconstructor set for Christmas years ago, and I only used it when I HAD to so I still have it... don't need it now though. It's a thick shampoo that you leave "sudded" up on your head for 3 minutes accompanied by an intensive conditioner, also left on for 3 minutes. It worked wonders, would take hair that you couldn't get a comb through and make it smooth!!
I only blow dry my hair until it's just damp enough that I know it'll dry before I get to work (a 45 minute traffic jam), and only curl it on special occasions and the last time was last October! Since it's never subject to styling appliances, perms, color, or products except for a little gel on my part to keep it in place, I never get split ends anymore (brag brag
). I haven't had my hair cut since I can't remember, and still no split ends! Um, why am I posting on this thread again?
EDIT: Oh yeah... and you don't have to wash it every day although to some (and sometimes me! LOL) it might seem a bit gross. Since my hair is fine I have to put it up when I don't (or else it looks stringy really fast and I have to brush it every five minutes), but I find it helps keep breakage down to skip at least one or two days a week.
