I'm going on my honeymoon to Puerto Rico next Friday and I was wondering what to do with my cats. I dont have anyone to take care of them when Im gone. Should I leave them with alot of food and water or should I look for someone to take care of them?

Look for someone to take care of them. 2 weeks is to long to leave them alone with just food and water..

and lets not forget those kitty boxes...

Maybe you have a good friend who would be willing to stay at your place while you are gone, My Daughter does that all the time with her Bassets, But I would try and make it a good trusting friend.

Wow I think I would try to have someone watch them. Do you trusst your neighbors? I would be freakin out leaving them alone. i worry to much while I am gone just hours they may get sick or anything. My mom watchs mine while I am gone and I leave her emergency numbers. are you going to keep some air going so they don't get hot. They may run out of both food and water. 2 weeks is along time

Petsitters are great...I used one when I went to Scotland for 1 week last year and they left little notes on how the cats were doing while I was gone. Please do not leave the cats with food and water...what if they run out? What if they have a medical emergency?

If you search online you could find information on kennels and petsitters. If you can't find anything, give a quick call to your vet or even to your local shelter, and they can recommend some places for you. Though you probably don't need anyone coming there everyday, you should at least have someone check on them every other day. Emergencies happen when we're home, but at least we can take care of them, if you leave for two weeks and something happens, then what?

I'm going to Brazil for 18 days on November and am bringing my baby along, I have that option, however, because I'm visiting family, but I already researched the kennels and petsitters in my area, just in case.

I'd definitely recommend hiring a petsitter. A kennel will be really stressful for most cats (plus probably quite a bit more expensive).

Do not under any circumstances leave your cats for 2 weeks with just food and water. Too many things can happen and treatable problems can become deadly in just a day or so. As just an example, if your cat gets a urinary blockage he will be dead in 48 hours without treatment but just fine if the problem is treated right away. And that's just one example.

Plus if you have a petsitter, you'll have peace of mind from knowing that your cats are being cared for and they will call you if anything serious happens. It makes a trip much more enjoyable.

As an example, one of my coworkers friend left her cat alone with plenty of food and water and while she was gone her cat knocked over her water while playing. She got home and the cat was dead, dehydrated...

I just went out of state for a week (first time since the cats/kittens) and I hired a pet sitter to come in once a day and check the babies and feed/water. She left notes and gave me a call mid week to update me and reassure me. It was a wonderful relief to know they were okay. It was fairly inexpensive. She brought in my mail, swept my floor, and kept my house looking lived in. I would highly recommend a pet sitter so your cats are safe at home.
