Hi everyone! I'm leaving for Florida on Monday and have to leave my Juicy behind

I'm going to miss him SOOOOO much! It's almost to the point where I've contimplated not going because of it. It's a last-minute deal, and it's AMAZING that I can get off work, so I need to take this opportunity while I have it. I don't trust anyone to come over and take proper care of Juicy while I'm gone, even though I'd love for him to be able to stay in the safety and comforts of our home. So, I am forced to find a vet to board him at. I called my vet and it's only $6.75 a night to keep him there! holy cow, are you kidding me? that's CHEAP! I trust them there and all, but I'm still going to be worried to death that they aren't taking good care of him or giving him enough lovin'.

Amie, if you read this, where did you take your kitties when you went away? Were you pleased with them? Was it pricey? Did they kitties act alright when you returned?

I'm scared to death Juicy will be mad at me or act differently when I get back.

Please help me ease my mind here, friends!!!

YES, by all means, go to Florida! I hope you have a great time!

I have boarded cats at our vet before. He'll probably be in a small-ish sized cage. Our vet offers play-time and comfort mats. You might ask to drop by your vet's office to see where Juicy would stay and ask about extra services like grooming and play-time.

We haven't boarded the cats since Grace came to live with us - the more you have the more expensive it is! I'm looking back at a bill from 2003 and then it was $9.11 per day. The comfort mat added $1.00 and play-time was $4.50 for 15 minutes. The vet also gave the cats a wellness exam at no charge. When we were looking at options for this past Christmas I called and it was going to be about $33.00 per day for all three cats. I'm very glad that we have someone we trust that can come by and see about everyone if we leave town. I think it's much less stressful for everyone.

He probably will, but he'll get over it. Emma always hides from us for the first few hours after we get back, but she's very high-strung.

Lacey, you'll probably feel better with Juicy being at the vet's office. That way you can program their telephone number on your cell phone and can check up on him any time. I would ask about play-time and if you can bring a bed or something like that for him. You know I'd invite him over here for the week if I could. I don't think he and Mac would get along too well.

Good idea, i'm going to go in there tomorrow and see where they hold them, and ask about play time and those things. I'm so worried about him. That would be so awesome if he could stay over there, but I bet they'd probably butt heads!
He sure would love to see his momma, though!

I'll write again after I check the place out tomorrow. Thanks so much for your speedy response!!!

I don't know anything about boarding, and it seems you've already gotten great advice in that respect, but I just wanna say that I hope you have a BLAST on your trip! What part of Florida are you coming to? It's been so sunny the past couple of weeks, I really hope it stays that way for your trip! Anyway, let me know the details girl!

Aw, I know how you feel.
I'm leaving tomorow for 9 days. The rats and Caeser don't care, but Orei and Princess get so upset.

Aw I'm sure it'll be okay. I'm already thinking about what we're going to do over our wedding... leave the 3 behind?
But Juicy will be fine without you and so very happy when you get back!

First of all enjoy your trip!

I am always a wreck when we leave. Molly used to be resentful for a while after we came back. She would get over it and be all lovey though.

Abby gets very nervous and pulls her fur when we are gone. When we get hoem, she is so lovey and won't leave our side for weeks.

I am nervouse becuase we will be away for a week at the end of August. That will be the longest we have ever been away from her.

I know you will worry, but Juicy will be fine! He may have a little bit of an attitude wehn you get back, but he will get over it!

Okay, so I've decided not to board Juicy...instead I'm paying my brother to come over every day and make sure he is fed and to give him some lovin'. We are going to board Destin, though, cause no one will be there to let him outside everytime he has to go potty. I decided that Juicy would be much more comfortable if he stays in the comforts of our own home and the environment he is used to.

So.....with that said, what extra steps do I take? Should I fill up an extra litterbox or two for him, just in case my brother is bad at keeping up with keeping it clean? Any other things I should do in preparation?

Amie, Brandon will also look after Noodle. She won't even miss me, I'm sure. She loves her mansion so much that she'll just be busy in her own daily routine. I can leave enough food and water in there for her for the week and my brother can keep an eye on the amounts and make sure she is never without. I will also ask him to get her out and play with her severl times throughout the week.

Thanks so much for your kind words, everyone!!!

We are leaving EARLY monday morning, like around 12:30 or 1 probably. We are staying in DESTIN!!! I looooooove Destin!!! I will be back Friday afternoon, since I have my friend's wedding to go to Saturday.

I am SO indecisive it's ridiculous. I changed my mind about 4 times today whether I was going to go or not. Thanks again everyone!!!

Destin? We're going to a wedding there in January. Check it out for us, Lacey, and let us know some of the more interesting places to go!

As for being away and litter boxes. . .
If you want to make it very, very easy for your brother to manage than get some disposable litter boxes. That way he won't have to scoop, he can just dump it in a trash bag and set out a new one. I've seen them at Petsmart and also at Schnuck's. Also you might think about getting an Oust Fan or something else like. I've found that it doesn't take long for a house to become "scented" when animals are around and there are not people going in and out all day airing the atmosphere.

I'm sure Juicy will be fine and certainly will be more comfortable at home.

Have a great trip!

thanks Amie! I'll pick some of those disposable ones up after work today and I'll also pick up a couple of those Oust fans. Great ideas!!!

Ever since the first time we went to Destin we've continued to go there. We love it so much.

I'm going to mis Juicy soooo much!!! Now Destin is staying home with him too. My parents are going to pay my brother to come over a few times a day and take care of them. So now they can keep each other company

Because he has his own house with his own dog. His dog is a German Shepard/Husky mix and is very protective of Brandon, so he gets a little rowdy with Destin and I don't want him around Juicy. It just wouldn't work out if Brandon stayed there the whole week. I'd be like this the whole trip:

Y'know Juicy's probably going to throw a party while you're gone. Mac always does.
