Hi. I have two cats and I ahve been transfered to UK. Moving from US to UK means cats have to go through 6 months quarantine. I am seeking to avoid that-- perhaps by finding foster parents to keep them for 6 months in a European country, after which time they are allowed into UK without quarantine. Anyone know of someone who would be willing to foster my lovely two indoor kitties in COntinental Europe? I'll cover costs, etc. Or any other solution. Thanks.

Just curious:

What is the advantage of them staying on the continent over being quarantined in England? Either way, you are separated for 6 months. I don't know much about this, so it's a question born in ignorance.

Hi there, I live in England and I have looked into the Quarentine laws here as I was once thinking of having a breeding pair shipped to me... I decided against it in the end. Anyway, you can find a quarentine kennel usually not too far away from where you are staying, there are quite a few, and alot will allow you to visit everyday. Most of them have kennels where all your cats can stay in together, there is also a way of getting them out early too, I can't remember exactly, but I think it is do with their rabies shots, I think you can have them checked over by vet when they arrive here which will help aswell. As for having them come from a European country - they can do that withour having to go into quarentine under the new "Pet Passport" scheme, the only thing is it can sometimes take longer.... I found a good site on the net somewhere, I'll go have a look and see if I can find it, I'll post the link for you. It tells you what you need to do, where some of the Quarentine kennels are, who to contact and which countries in Europe are safe..... its very useful!! If I can be of any more help just shout!! I'll go see if I can find that site for ya.....

Thanks to everyone who has replied to date. I have had them in quarantine in London before, so I know the ropes there. But I was thinking they are such people cats that they would prefer to spend the 6 months in a foster family's home in Europe, than 6 months in a quarantine facility in London. So I have been trying to find via friends, etc. people in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, who might be good foster parents for them, or know of a way to reduce the timeperiod. Thanks for your ideas to date.

Oooops!! Sorry I just thought you'd never done it before!! ha ha ha.. duh!! Anyway.. somewhere on that site it does tell you how to get the time period reduced I can't remember how myself so it might be worth having a search through it when you get a minute. I don't have any family/friends in those countries so Im of no help there!! sorry! Anyway - keep us updated!
