Hi all,
I am so excited I can hardly stand it!!! After 2 years of dating, Bradley and I are FINALLY taking our first vacation together!!!

We want to rent a cabin somewhere in the North GA/TN/NC mountains (we're not terribly picky) the first weekend in November (we'll take a 4-day weekend). Our only requirement is that it has a hot tub
and fishing nearby (Bradley's requirement).
Has anyone ever vacationed/lived in these areas and do you have any rental cabins that you could recommend?
Thanks!

I can't remember if they have a hot tub, but my parents neighbors have a log house in Boone...

OR I went Whitewater rafting in WV and stayed in a neat little cabin with a hot tub.

Denise, I really wanted to get a place that was near whitewater rafting. Then I realized that we're going in November, so we'd probably get pneumonia rafting then!

I have a friend that owns cabins here in Asheville - want the phone number? They are really beautiful!

Wow, thanks Kellye! I was hoping you'd see this thread; we're very interested in visiting Asheville.
It looks like there are a ton of cabins on these 2 sites, I hope we can find something!!

If Kellye hadn't mentioned it, I was going to tell you that when I was looking for Bed and Breakfasts in Asheville I came across quite a few cabin rentals up in the mountains there. Glad Kellye could help you out with actual websites and everything.
Asheville is so beautiful Amy! I know you'd have a great time there. Maybe you could talk Bradley into visiting the Biltmore? It's SO worth it! No matter what you do, have a BLAST! I'm so excited that you guys are going on your first vacation together!!
After this one you'll both just want to keep traveling together! Let us know what you end up doing!

Well, the only place I've been to in this area is the Gatlinburg area of the Smoky Mountains. It is absolutely beautiful there. Here's a couple of links that will give you a good idea of things to do and places to stay. Gatlinburg is only 1.5 hours from my house so we can go anytime we want!!! Be jealous, ya'll!!!!

Gatlinburg is about the only "mountain vacation" destination that I've been to. People who grow up in the mountains usually go don't go to the mountains for vacation
We go straight for the beach! So...I guess people who grow up at the beach go to the mountains for vacation???

Thanks Katherine and Susan

Yes, Asheville and Blue Ridge (north Georgia) are the frontrunners. Actually, Blue Ridge is leading by a nose right now b/c I just found 6 absolutely PERFECT cabins in that area....the mountain views are breathtaking!
So we'll see. One thing is for sure- I've never seen Bradley so excited! I think he's more excited about our upcoming trip than I am!

Ooh Kelly, I'd totally forgotten about Gatlinburg!!
The only problem is the drive. It's about 8 hours from Savannah (north GA and Asheville are about 6). My little Saturn only has about 100hp and Bradley's truck is a 4-wheel drive, but it's not very comfy for long distances

But I love Gatlinburg so much and there is a lot to do, so if we find the perfect deal, we may end up there.

And yes, I am VERY jealous that you live so close to that city!!!

Actually, I usually head for even more tropical beaches!
I've only had one mountain vacation. They're beautiful and a wonderful vacation, but I'm a beach bunny to the core.

My family every year for the last 9yrs goes to Gatlinburg,Tennessee for Thanksgiving. We love it. We rent a different cabin every time. We really enjoy Ober Gatlinburg in the mountains above Gatlinburg. You can drive up the mountain or take the tram. We have gone both ways. Just some of the most beautiful mountains around. I really can't say enough about it.

For those of you who've gone to Gatlinburg, what kind of car did you travel in? I just don't know if our vehicles would make it through those mountains!

Amy, there are paved roads in Gatlinburg. We took our little hatchback "trip car" last time we went.

I have heard you can hire some hillbilly sherpa mountain guides with pack mules if your car can't get through the mountains, though.
