Y'all, the grossest/freakiest thing EVER happened this morning.
I awoke around 4:30am because I felt something on my neck and I KNEW it was a large cockroach (and cockroaches are my #1 phobia)
. Half asleep, I grabbed it (it was all crunchy feeling) and just threw it across the bed (hey, I was half asleep and not really thinking). Of course, I couldn't really go back to sleep after that.

So when I was getting ready for work this morning, I was on the lookout for the large roach. I noticed Cosette paying extra-special attention to a purse that was sitting on the floor of my closet. I didn't think too much of it b/c she has a purse fetish (smart girl). Well, I went to pick up the purse and out flew the large roach.
I didn't really know what to do, so I shrieked and yelled "Get it Cosette!" Of course, she couldn't really do anything but stare at it, so I summoned up all of my courage (Bradley had already left for work by this point) and squashed it! Woo hoo!
Of course, now it's time for the apt. complex to come in and do some serious exterminating....

Does anyone else have any really freaky bug stories to share?

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKK!!. Oh Amy i don't envy you one bit!

4 years ago when my ex boyfriend and i were in Greece, he went to the bathroom in one of the bars before we left .

All we heard was him scream then come running out slapping both his hands against his neck because a cockroach landed on him

They were huge as well!, and where we were in Crete it was quite bad for them because weve been to 2 other islands in Greece with no problem with cockroaches.

Urgh i can see them now!

So Linda.....ready to plan a trip to the deep South right about now?

If you think THAT'S bad....I was in the parking lot at a grocery store one time when I saw a dead roach....but this roach (or "palmetto bug) was about 7" long and 3-4" thick. It looked like something out of Fear Factor!

If I ever saw one of those in my apt, they'd be peeling me off the ceiling!

I guess what they say is true: the bigger they are, the harder they fall!

Oh my gosh, Amy, that's like my worst nightmare. Most creepy, crawly things don't bother me much, but roaches totally freak me out. Think this goes back to the summers I spent at Army posts in the South. The first time was when I was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC. The female drill sergeant was giving us a tour of the barracks when we went into the latrine and turned on the the light. A huge roach scurried across the floor and over the top of my boot. The drill sergeant said, "Private, kill that big a-- cockroach!" I was petrified, so she did it. Crunch. What a horrible sound!

We also had a major roach infestation in the barracks at Ft. Gordon. I'll never forget the night I walked into my room, turned on the light and saw a huge roach in the middle of my bunk. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I let a very girly shreak that sent the drill sergeant barreling down the hall to "rescue" me.

Haven't had a problem with roaches in the place I live now but at my old apartment had the occasional oriental cockroach (also known as water bugs). Fortunately my little bug alarm (Gracie) always alerted me to their presence in time for me to go crazy with the can of Raid!

Yuck!, I would have lost it too, I hate bugs!!

Once last summer, I went to get a plate out of the cupboard and noticed an ant....then another and another, so I threw back all the cupboard doors and my shelves were crawling with hundreds of carpenter ants
further investigation found them infesting my cheerio box!...yuck!

I do.... I woke up one night, because a bug was crawling on my foot!

Well, that was the night my puppy wasn't doing so well. I was waking up checking on him constantly, and when the bug woke me up, I decided to check on him. That's when I found him, and he had died.

That's the worst bug story I have.

Oh my goodness Amy, you poor thing!!!!!!!!! I would have been petrified. I probably would have even cried! Roaches are the worst bugs out there. Lots of hugs for you and your awful ordeal.

I have a bug story (mind you I'm phobic of almost all bugs, so this was really awful). I was in high school (I think either a senior or junior) and had come back to a friends house with some other girls after we'd been out somewhere. She lived in a beautiful house in a neighborhood surrounded by woods, so bugs were very common around there. Before I walked in someone said, "Ew. Look out for that stink bug above the door!" So of course we all walked as quickly as we could into the house to avoid the nasty thing. Before I go on, in case you don't know what stink bugs look like: they're HUGE, long and thin, they look like a twig or stick, are usually varying shades of brown all over their body, and when attacked they let out an AWFUL smell. So we go inside, walk upstairs, and into my friends older sister's bedroom (we were waiting to talk to her about something, but at the time she was finishing up in the shower). Suddenly I feel something on my back. I swat my hand at my back and feel whatever it is move around to my front. I look down and let out the loudest and most horrified scream EVER (at 11pm at night, in a house with 2 parents, 2 younger girls, about 4 of my friends, and my friend's older sister) because there was that stink bug and it had a BABY on its BACK! Of course the thing let out its awful stench and so there I am shrieking at the top of my lungs while this thing and its ugly infant smell the place up. The thing falls off my stomach eventually and every one of my friends was screaming at this time. My friend's dad came running from the shrieks and he ended up saving the day. I felt sick about it the whole night. It was the most disgusting bug I had ever seen and it felt the need to land on ME! AHHHH.

Oh Cassie, that is such a sad story
.

Miss Mew, I know how scary it is to see a thick line of "ants marching." (haha, had to make a Dave Matthews Band reference). I had a similar experience with one of my apts. in college. My roommate at the time (the genius that she was) left an UNWRAPPED piece of candy in the cupboard. Guess where the ants were headed?

I think they can "smell our fear" and they must feed off of that or something!

It was something like 5 years ago and I still shudder thinking about it. Hooray for the south and our colorful array of bug life.

Oh Amy, you poor thing!!!! How brave of you to go "one on one" with the roach and squash it, though!!! I hate roaches, too
. Unfortunately for us, living in the south and living with bugs kinda go hand in hand. I'll send Oscar down for a few days so he can eat all the bugs out of your apt complex

Ew. I don't like them either. Amy, you said "large cockaroach." Was it a palmetto bug? You probably know what they are, but our Northern friends most likely don't. Palmetto bugs primarily are outdoors and live in trees. My BF is a landscaper and he said you wouldn't believe how many there are when cutting down a palmetto. I found that they get into our apartment through the drain in the bathroom. I bought a mesh cover for the drain and only see them rarely now. I love that little mesh thing!

We may have rain and cold weather here, but thankfully that means we don't get many huge bugs!

I had a few flies in my place last week, but I watched Alfie catch and eat one last night so I'm guessing that's where they've all disappeared to
