Hi, i'm new here, my name is Lacey. I came here looking for nutritional information, but i'd best tell the whole story.

Four weeks ago, my family and i moved into a new house. The former owners left behind four or five cats that act as though they belonged in the house, which, with my families allergy situation, is not something we could allow. About two weeks ago, my dog ( a mini-beagle) gave birth to two puppies, but one did not survive. The other grew really fast, and is now the fattest puppy i have ever seen!!

About a week ago, my mom and dad began to hear mewing that seemed to being coming from under their bedroom. We figured one of the cats had crawled under there to have her kittens. My dad could not sleep, since the kitten mewed all day and night (something was wrong, i knew, the kitten was NOT mewing cuz she was happy...), so i crawled under the house looking for it. I could not find it under the house, but we tracked the mewing down to the WALL behind their bed.

We got the kitten out of the wall, still not knowing how it got in there ( it looked to be about a week old at the time.) We approached all of the cats, seeing if they would claim it, none would. We gave it cow's milk for a while, but it did not seem any better off...

So my mother stuck it in with our dog and her puppy...and, viola!!
The kitten, named Iris, is now about two weeks old, the puppy Daphne, just less than that (my chronology is off i know.) Iris is now fat and happy, and my dog has readily accepted her as part of the family...

My question is: Is dog milk nutritious enough for her? Has anyone else dealt with this? Should i suppliment her diet, since she is a carnivore, or can that wait until they are eating solids?
Any advice would help, Thanks!

Yes, that was the plan. I would never jeopardize a cat's possible life and happiness...

Thanks for the information!

I wouldn't have guessed that dog milk would be a suitable substitute, but if the kitten seems to be thriving then it's probably okay. I mean, a lot of humans give their babies cow milk so I guess they're more resilient than we'd think.

You should supplement the kitten with KMR or Just Born kitten milk, which are available at any pet supply store.

I wouldn't recommend taking any of the cats to a shelter unless you know this particular shelter won't kill them if they aren't adopted quickly. A good alternative is to research rescue organizations in your area and have the cats spayed and neutered ASAP (and have your dog spayed too!), then let them hang around while you and/or a rescue find permanent homes for them.
