I posted last week with the question about how to keep my kittens off of my kitchen table. Your responses to me told me that I better accept them wanting to get up on the table, but to maybe teach them not to be on the table when we are eating. My thought was to make it a dominance thing. When we are sitting at the table, the table is off limits. When we leave the table, they can get on. Does this make sense? So far I just say a firm no, and they jump off. If a firm NO doesn't work, or if they jump off and then jump back on in defiance, another NO with a quick squirt seems to work. Any advice is appreciated. I don't want to hurt my babies, but I also want to be able to eat with my hubby without being dive bombed.

we have a wonderful cycle though when we are eating

take a bite, pick cat up off table and set on ground, take bite, take drink, pick cat up off table and set on ground, take bite....etc

and now since adding chloe, the cycle goes twice as fast

no doesnt usually work, but the squirt bottle sometimes does... however, it is never around when i need it

My cats go on tables but strangely not when the humans are having their meals or sitting down just to chat.

I have never used the "squirt" bottle method. But I have been very firm and I hiss at them if they misbehave. They get the idea pretty quick. I suppose you can say they know it's your territory while you are there and they must respect that just like they do among themselves.
