Has this ever happend to anyone else...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As some of you know, my husband is in the Air Force. He is currently deployed overseas(to Cyprus to be exact).
He just called me a while ago and told me that he was talking to another guy that is deployed over there and that guy knows me from JUNIOR HIGH!!!
My husband told him my maiden name and he said he remembered me, he knew I played softball, what position I played, who I hung out with, etc.
My husband called me and told me about this and asked if I knew him. Which I honestly dont remember the guy. I got out an old yearbook and looked him up. He looks familiar, we might have had a class together or met at a party or who knows! I do remember his cousin really well though, who I met a couple years later in high school.
I just thought that was sooooo neat! Almost a decade later, in a place far, far away, I 'run into' someone from my past. He will actually be in Oklahoma this fall visiting family, we may meet for lunch or something when the time comes. Just to reminisce.
I am actually more eager to find out how he knows so much about me, when I know so little about him. I dont ever forget people that I know, or once knew.
Anyone else have any stories like this??
It's strange when things like that happen!
Are you looking forward to meeting up with the guy?!
I have had so many moments like that!
The first one was when we were on a family holiday in Orlando. We were wandering around one of the theme parks and turned round to see another family from our small village - I went to primary school with the kids! It was even stranger, as usually everyone (I mean everyone) in the village knew when and where wveryone was holidaying! Plus, to actually bump into them!
I also had an odd experience at my graduation recently! I have been in this year of students for only one year and don't really know many. I was sitting next to a girl called Angharad discussing how they would make a mess of her name! I told her I knew someone in High School with the same name! We kept chatting and a girl came on the big screen (they were filming the audience etc) and it was my friend's girlfriend! Angharad mentioned that she knew her from her foundation course, so I asked if she was from the my area! We worked out that she was the Angharad that I knew!
She used to go on a camp with my then boyfriend and group of friends!
wow, thats neat!
I am looking foward to meeting with him. He moved a couple of counties away in high school and actually ended up going to the same high school as one of my best girlfriends, as well as a guy that she tried to set me up with.
I am eager to know if he knows them. Plus we can make fun of our old teachers/the other students/ourselves.
It will be fun!
I just cant wait to get back to Oklahoma in general. I grew up with everyone out there! I cant wait to see everyone again. Good Times!
ooo perhaps he had a crush on you in junior high? That might explain why he knows so much about you and you not knowing that much of him.... nudge, nudge! how cool is that?!
Yeah I think so
I was horrified to learn that one of my closest friends had a crush on me in High School. I always wondered how he knew so much about me, without being creepy to go with it. I didn't even know when his birthday was - he never told me! Everything sort of fell out of him when I took him to the pub to say that I was going away (he'd had a few) and he admitted that as a kid, the only thing he DIDN'T know about me was where I lived, and he used to love going ice-skating with me on a Friday night, even though he didn't feel he could say so because his friends didn't like me much. That was kinda cute. I love him to death though, he's such a sweetheart
If I'd only known! He's so huggy and warm and he's such good fun to be with - to be honest I really miss his company now that I'm out here. It's a comfort thing as he calls it - he got used to having me around on a weekend when he was onshore, and now I'm not there any more and he has to walk home from the pub on his own. I think that's part of what make the little things so important in a friendship.
Anyway I'm rambling again
but yeah, you're right, the world is awful small these days! Have a little look at Google Earth - that makes it look even smaller!!
When my ex was in Afghanistan, I talked to an elderly friend of ours who is from Denmark, and she said she had a nephew in the Danish Army who was currently there as well. I mentioned it to him, in passing, because I figured they'd never be able to find each other amidst all the international forces there. . .
Well, her nephew is a pilot - as was my ex. He had also been informed of my ex's presence, and sure enough, one day they met on the flight line. He (can't for the life of me remember his name!) took a dig. pic and sent it back to all the relatives on both sides!!!!!
Edit: Just remembered the REALLY wierd part of that story: at the time I was working for a real estate agent, whose assistant's ex was ALSO a Danish pilot. So I passed along the name to hubby, who asked his new Danish friend if he knew him. He did indeed know of him.
Tiny little globe we live on, aint' it????
