i was just wondering if anyone has one of those automatic litterbox things? where the scoop goes through after kitty had done his deed.??? i am just wondering how well they work..right now i just use the crystal litter stuff with a covered box. but i wonder how convenient or non convenient it is..

and also. this may pose a weird questions...but with my cat being indoors and all. sometimes his little behind smells and i was wondering how to deal with that, in a sense of, should i just wipe it with a damp cloth? better way to clean? not clean at all? food? sorry if that seems weird. but when i lay down to sleep and river like is walking all around or plops his behind by my face, its not the greatest thing, lol.????

i dont have any advise about the litterbox, but I do use baby wipes to clean their bottoms when they need it. Chloe actually has to have her anal glands expressed every once in a while. If cleaning it off does not help, then you could try a different food, just make sure you change gradually to reduce the chance of an upset tummy.

I have one of the littermaid tray's and have two cats. I think they are great, but be careful to use premium clumping litter such as world greatest cat litter. You do have to buy extra disposable trays for it, but we generally empty ours out and disinfect them to use again. There are automatic sensors on the side which lets the tray know that there has been something init and after 10 minitues it will rake the litter and put the clumps in to the plastic tray reservoir. A lid goes over the reservoir which locks all the smells.

Mine copes quite well with two cats, but you would find you would need to change the resevoir quite often if you had more.

This is my experience with Litter Maid.

1- noone should use them for a cat under the age of 10 months. Due to the cat's size the sensor might not be triggered and this has caused some accidental deaths.

2- they are ok to use with females NOT males do to the pee positions the males assume and quite frequetly spray and cover the electronic eye so they do not work properly or not at all

3- if your cat has loose stool it cloggs and stops the rake from working propperly and you have a mess and a half on your hands.

In my opinion it's not worth the money and too much work - I'd rather scoop

If you really REALLY can afford it, i've heard good things about Litter Robot. That thing is huge too btw.
i don't know if anyone here ever owned one, would be interesting though.

As for the stinking behind problem, i usually just wipe Hobbes with a damp towel or use those pet wipes.

My husband got me one for Christmas last year. (I already had 6 litter boxes with scoopable litter that worked out just fine) So, maybe that's why I really didnt care for it. But my problem with it was you can only fill it with a little litter so the rake can pass through it easlier. With 5 adult cats all wanting to use that litterbox, it was constantly running back and forth, and filling the dump box it dumps the poo into.If the poo was to heavy, it would try again and again probably all day if I didnt hear it, and burn itself out! And I was having to put a new dump box in it several times a day, and those are quite expensive! And if I didnt think to dump it ,it would over flow and then getting it out was a mess because it snaps in. I also could have had a negative feeling towards it because I was expecting something besides a litterbox for Christmas
But I'll never tell hubby that, I just put it away and didnt say anything.
