Male cat acting strange

Thread Starter
I have 4 cats, I just posted about my newest cat, the only female in the household.

However, my remaining cats are 1 11 yr old male pixie bob, 1 14 yr old male gray american shorthair, and another american shorthair that is an orange tabby. (He's a year old, and he's the problem) ALL of which are neutred.

With the addition of the female cat into HIS room, (where i keep all my newest cats i find... (ok so i do this regularly and find them homes). This is the first sexually mature female he has ever come in contact with.

He continually goes close, but out of hitting range and walks along the top of the couch while she sleeps. I should also mention I believe she is pregnant.

He is acting very rude and different to me. I pick him up and pet him and cuddle him and he growls and hisses. He is also whining a lot and being over-active. Although he is neutered, will this go away with time? or will it go away when i find a new home for the female cat?

What can I do and is the female cat indeed the problem?

Also, prior to this he has ALWAYS been a scaredy cat, but always friendly and loving with me. NEVER growled at me or bit me or hissed at me. This has me puzzled.

EDIT: I apologize for posting this in the wrong section, I am new.

Hello and Welcome!! Our fantastic mods will be along shortly to expertly answer your questions, but in the meantime, since I can't sleep anyhow, let me take a shot at it. . .

Sounds like you've answered a lot of your own questions: You brought a new cat into "his" room - the first sexually mature female, another new experience for him. He's probably very stressed over the whole affair. Have you heard of Feliway? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...188x003&ctt=60
It is a pheremone-based behavior modification spray that can help to calm and soothe your stressed kitties - both your male and the stray female.

I'll defer any further discussion to our experts here, before my fatigue causes me to say something wrong. Keep us posted on how your kitties are doing!!!
