I have a meeting on Thursday with the HR ppl... they said there might be another job in another office.... but if they offer a good package then I might take it and go.

4 and a 1/2 years and then they cut costs so they cut me?

oh sweetie, i'm so sorry!

but theres another way to look at this. when my dad was made redundant it was the best thing that happened to him. he took the money and opened his own buissness and now he's raking it in!

So sorry. But you were talking about getting out of London. Maybe this is the opportunity?

Sending lucky vibes to you.

It happened to me at my last job after 4 years - they moved to Heathrow which was impossible for me to get to without a 4 hour commute daily. So I took redundancy.

The reason I have been told here, is that they need to cut costs in this dept. and I am that cost.... nothing reflected on my work / sickness (my sickness has only been 6 days this year, and 3 of those were from an operation). My boss does not want me to go but there is nothing he can do.

They might have another job at another office but it might not be for me. Ideally it might be the best thing - take the dosh and run then work somewhere in the City with no tube trips!

I've seen a lot of layoffs in the last 18 years though so far I've been missed. The thing I hate about redundancies and layoffs is that so often it has little to do with the quality of the worker. It just happens to be the position that is cut.

What kind of work do you do, Gilly?

Personal Assistant at a senior level - a bit more than the average secretarial job. I could move elsewhere but I just have to make sure I get nearly the same salary etc as I only just bought a flat two years ago so I have the mortgage & bills to pay.

I have spoken to mum & dad and thankfully, if I do have a problem with getting another job and say, run out of money, they have money tied up so at least I don't have to worry so much about the flat!

Oh and, I am so glad that I didn't buy that £109 bin to go with my dishwasher now!!!!!!

Funny how one goes through a large portion of one's life and then suddenly in a couple of weeks one hears a particular phase over and over. A few weeks ago I had never heard of beans on toast then in a movie, a tv show and here, I hear about it. Of course the movie was British, the TV show was British and the members mentioning it here are British so I suspect it is a British thing.

Since I've never tried it, is it tasty?
