I did it. I finally upgraded my website, it takes 72 hours to process but thats ok! WHOO I upgraded my website to an actual domain name
it will be 8.95 a month thats pretty reasonable! If you ask me.

so I am offically the owner, of ScamperFarms.com !!! YAY!

I thought it would be a bit more professional.

Did you get hosting with that? We use a host that gives lots of extras plus the domain name for less than $8 ($95 a year I think).

It sure is fun owning your own domain name isn't it? LOL.. once I had one, I went crazy. We've owned 8 over a period of 3 years, four are still active!

Congrats!

I'd like to get one too, I keep shopping around and see quite a few - but can't decide on price and dependability

I recommend ours highly
Out of the three years we've used it, I can't remember a single major outage, and maybe only two "hiccups" where it was out for an hour or so. Pretty good track record overall, and lots of good extras. We have two full hosting accounts with them.

I'll have to ask hubby for the affiliate link when he gets back from the store if you'd like it. It's currently listed at $7.95/mo (same as it was 3 years ago so it doesn't go up even though their hosting packages have gotten beefier), payable in 12 or 24 month increments. Includes 3000mb, 1 free domain name and up to 5 free sub-domains, 500 email accounts with unlimited number of forwarding email addresses, SSL, CGI-BIN, MySQL (in case you want to set up your own forum or members-only area), PHP & Perl Support... plus more, including a bunch of built-in plugins for message boards, chat rooms, blogger, etc.

Here's the Geocities comparison:
\t GeoCities Pro
$8.95/month + one-time setup fee $15.00
· \tDomain name included (e.g., www.your-name.com)
· \t5 email accounts (e.g., [email protected])
· \t25 MB of disk space and 10 GB of data transfer/month (bandwidth)
· \tPageBuilder, File Manager, Site Stats, FTP and more.

Okay, so for a $1 less a month, you can get unlimited email forwarding addresses in addition to the 500 regular emails opposed to just 5, 3000 mb of disk space instead of 25, and 50 GB of data transfer instead of 10. Geocities also doesn't say anything about Mysql databases or anything, not to mention all the cool plugins... and ours has no setup fee... aaack!!! I think ours would be the obvious choice! I only wish I knew ScamperFarms was looking for a new host ahead of time!!!

Here's the link:

My domain is through GeoCities as well, but I pay $12 a month. I've never had an outage, so far (knock on wood), except for the time, I forgot to renew my domain name, which you have to do, once a year.

My domain name (purrfectpurrsians.net) is $8 a year. Then my webhost is $26 a year. So I guess I pay a grand total of $2.83 per month. I've used my current webhost for 1 1/2 years, had one outage for about 2 hours and they gave me a 2 week automatic credit for that outage. So I'm pretty happy with that! I didn't want to pay $8-15 a month. I have the mini package and have never gone over my bandwidth limit.

I know.... I still have a hard time believing how little I pay. And my pricing stays the same as long as I keep my site up. So even though this year the hosting price has gone up to $29/year I still only had to pay $26 a year this year. And that one outage I had wasn't even a true outage. It was because they purchased and moved to a new server and were just in the process of moving stuff over.
