I have had Freckles for almost 3 weeks now. I'm taking to the vet on Tuesday, and just after I set the appointment I noticed that he's spitting up his indoor formula food. Not a lot, but it does concern me. Is this a sign of just stress from moving, or something older cats go through? He's 8, and I've never had a senior cat. The woman I got him from almost never took him to the vet other than to get him neutered - it was always "he seems OK." He doesn't play as much as Bob, who's between 3 and 4 according to the vet. It's funny - this last week is the first time I felt like the 3 of us were a family!

I would talk to the vet about doing some bloodwork on Freckles to check how everything is functioning and at the least get a baseline of what is normal for him. It is possible that the spitting up is from the stress of a new home and new family, but I would bring up with your vet to be sure.

Having had/have 2 senior kitties myself I would go with what Petnurse said about the bloodwork (a senior panel since he is an older cat over 7 years) and bring up what he is doing with his food. It could be just stress of new surroundings or a sudden change in food and water.

I just came back from the vet. Freckles actually has an abcessed tooth. He's on antibiotics and will have a teeth cleaning in 10 days. Everything else has come back OK so far (still waiting on the fecal sample and some of the bloodwork). The vet doesn't feel he needs senior food just yet. I mad because this could have been prevented with regular vet visits. I have no idea how long he was suffering. I'm just glad he'll be feeling better soon.
