Ok today our rescue got a mama and her 3 wks old kittens and I brought them home and put the mama and her kittens in a big crate but the kittens are whining and whining. Does it take a little bit for the mama to adjust being in a crate and start nursing her kittens?

My mom was scared at first...and it did take some time for her to get adjusted...I had them in my bathroom. When I checked on them later in the day..all was well. I hope it's the same for your new foster.

Is the mom lying with the kittens and allowing them to nurse? Are the kittens crying as they nurse, or are they restless while at the nipple? Does the mom's nipples look okay? Any sores or purple spots?

I mean I have seen her nurse them its just when shes not nursing there either crying or sleeping. Her nipples look fine. I was just worried about the crying..

The crate is big enought for a large dog.. Like right now there not crying. Its funny if they hear noise outside the door they will start crying or if i go in there.

OK, then they are beginning to want to explore their world a bit ... can you let them out in a safe area to start learning how to run and jump? Also, if they are this curious at 3 weeks, you might also begin introducing them to regular food and kitty litter.

Well right now they are real tiny and still have trouble walking.. In the crate there is litter and kitten food I think they have been exploring that already..
