I was sitting down watching tv and keeping an eye on my new puppy, when I looked up over at the kitchen. Isabelle my 1 year old cat was draging Fez my 15 week old kitten, across the kitchen into the other room. I yelled out Isabelle's name and she dropped Fez. Fez was fine, calm, and a couple minutes later they were sitting next to eachother hanging out. This wasnt an agressive thing, Isabelle is the friendlist cat ever, she always makes her rounds and bathes all the dogs and cats in the house. Isabelle was spayed when I got her at 9 months. Has anyones cat ever done this? It really shocked me to see Fez being dragged on his back across the kitchen, i think she was holding him on the neck somewhere. Kind of freaked me out. Thanks!

I've seen it happen. I think it some sort of female thing in some cats, an instinct that doesn't go away even if spayed.

Sounds like a female instinct (spayed or not) to carry the young by the neck scruff... animals tend to have enough scruff, especially at that young, to be carried by a "mommy" cat... my black lab is 11 and spayed and carries her stuffed animal babies (and the occasional backyard kill) by the neck wherever she's taking them... I wouldn't worry... especially if they were just hangin out afterwards and the baby wasn't crying at all
