Hi. My name is Mary and me and my sisters recently took in a pregnant cat. She had a home up until about a month ago when her owners kicked her out because she was pregnant and because of inspection. We live in a Housing Authority and don't have the money to take care of her like she should be taken care of. We love her though and want to find a good home. She loves poeple and is very friendly and sweet. The neighborhood kids throw her around and pull on her tail so we try to keep her in as much as we can. All the shelters where we live aren't no kill. My sister called somewhere and someone actually said " No one will take a pregnant cat. And if they do she'll be euthanized." So we really need someone's help. We could actually lose our house because we're not allowed to have pets, my mom makes that clear everyday, but we can't leave her on the street to fend for herself, it's not fair. We actually had another pregnant cat last year that was on her own since she was about 3 months old. She had a litter of eleven kittens. One a kid killed because she had it outside, three she had in someone else's home and they took care of them, and she had seven at our house. We raised them and eventually gave them to good homes, even her. But no one is wanting cats, and there's so many kittens. If you know how to help me please write me at my email address. It's [email protected]. For some reason it's hard for me to get into this site. I guess it might be because it's a library computer. So please do me this favor. I appreciate it so much, worried and searching in Ohio, Mary

Mary...I can appreciate that you want to help this cat, but that you aren't in a position to keep her. Due to this, I would recommend that you see if you can have this cat spayed. Yes, it would mean the kittens are aborted, but it is easier to find a rescue willing to take a spayed cat than a pregnant cat. Perhaps there is someone here who works for a rescue close by and can assist you. Here is a list of low cost clinics in Ohio:

Sorry, I should have said. Specifically, we're in Middletown, Ohio. Near Dayton, and around 45 minutes away from Cincinnati. I don't want the kittens to be aborted, and if it comes down to it we'll definitely keep her instead of doing that. They don't deserve to die just cause someone didn't want her anymore.

Mary, I do have so much sympathy for you, your sisters & the mama kitty. And may your dear mother receive many, many blessings for risking her home for the sake of the cat!! If you do have to have mama kitty spayed & the kitties "taken", please remember that it is for their sake, too; no one likes the thought that these dear little souls won't get to live a happy, healthy life with a dear family, with love, comfort & toys, but there is no guarantee that will happen anyway. But if you choose to keep them, I will be behind you 100%; it will be hard to make sure that they go to good homes, and that the new homes get them neutered so that this problem doesn't happen again. I am praying that you will find someone to help out, that can take on the whole lot - I know that's asking alot, but sometimes miracles happen. Meanwhile, please keep us posted, okay? You can also e-mail me @ [email protected], if that's easier, if you want some moral support. Again, blessings on you & your sisters - your compassion for all these cats is commendable!!! Take Care, Susan

Well, I don't think if there even was anyone to take her that we could now. She's about to have them I'm almost sure of it. Is there anyone that could let me know what a mom cat might usually do before she's about to have them? I would appreciate it a lot. So far she's doing pretty good, and she's staying in the house without as much meowing as she usually does. I'll most likely be raising her kittens by myself. I agreed to take care of them and my sisters are looking harder for a job so that we can take care of ourselves as well. The last momma we had was pretty much an outside cat, she usually only came in to feed them. A couple times she actually tried to bring in dead mice, and once a pretty big dead rabbit to feed them with!
But this one is different and only recently got kicked out, so she's doing ok. Thanks for all of your support and advice, it really does help. We actually have two more kittens, both around two to three months, blue and Mouse. Really cute. And two more outside cats, females that we recently had to take to the SPCA because our mom was ranting and raving about having five cats!
I just want to help, and as long as someone throws one out I want to be there to take it in and try to find it a good home.
Hopefully one day I can open a no kill shelter just for cats, that would be something. Praying for every unfortunate animal in the world, mary

Well, sounds like you are going to have some babies. You might make a post over in the babies section. But, real quick does she have a place to have them. Mine usually liked a nice quiet dark place like the closet? You need to get some towels that are going to get dirty and make sure to have some water for mama so, she doesn't get dehydrated. Now, I'm no expert at this so, I'm sure their are others that have a bunch more helpful tips but, I thought this might be a good start. I wish you the best. I know how you feel about the pet thing. We were in military housing for many years and I would be constantly getting in trouble since we were only allowed 2 animals and I've got 2 cats and many chinchilla's (each one counts as a pet). My husband would constantly grumble at me. Keep you head high you need to be strong for this mama and babies. Luv, Hope

Hey, well thanks for the advice, sorry I haven't been to the library to be able to use it though. She had been looking for a place to have them for a while though, she picked my mom and dad's bedroom floor! Mom wasn't too happy about that. She had a hard pregnancy though. The first, 3rd and last were all breech births. If my sister wasn't so close to her at least three of the kittens would have died. We ended up calling a vet and she helped us through the first one and gave us helpful tips for later. Oreo(the momma) wouldn't even touch the first one so Dana had to get it out of it's sack and keep putting it close to her. Finally she started licking it and we were so relieved. She ended up having five all together. The first one is dark brown with stripes, the second is white with a little black and brown spot on it's head, the third one is a light brown version of the dark one, the fourth one is white with a brown spot on it's head, and the fifth is a beautiful pure black color with a little white on it's paws and belly. They're getting big fast and she's real protective of them. My mom keeps wanting to get rid of them, but also wants to keep them at the same time. But they're all doing ok, and momma is alright now. Dana takes her for a walk every night down by the river and she's usually ok after that. A little tired, but at least she stops meowing at the door. She's already in heat again. I was going to ask you, or anyone, when is it ok to get the mother spayed after the kittens are born. I don't know. And I agree with you, can't help but love them, you just can't. Hope you continue to love animals as much as you do, relieved and happy, mary
