Hello,

I just came from the vet once again. This has been the 4th time that I have taken him in the last two months. Ok, this is what I am doing. I have him on Nutro Max cat wet (once a day) and dry. He gets about a size of a quarter of raw hambuger (once a day, that was grown in our back yard, so that there are no additives) he also chews on grass that I grow for him and the other cat I have. Pud gets them but Squeaker does not get uti's. Right now I am getting really worried about this. I do not want his uti's get into his kiddneys. He is a wonderful kitty and I do not like it when they get sick in any way. IF you can help me figure something out so I can stop taking him to the vet.

Pud is just over three years old and was fixed when he was just over 6 months.

Thank you for your help,
Epi

Max cat dry is fo9rmulated for helping prevent urinary issues... Does the cat ever get dry??? Talk to the vet if you want a wet only diet I know of no uti formulas in wet food( though I can be wrong)

My cat has been put on Waltham's SO. It's a prescription diet for cats with urinary problems and crystals. Does your cat have crystals?

has your vet talked to you about an all canned diet? also have they determined if they are from crystals/bacteria or from no cause (interstitial cystitis type UTIs)?

all 3 of my guys have a history of UTI troubles. they are pretty different in form, though. stimpy had blocked once, before i adopted him. he's easily managed through diet. nabu has had crystals a couple times & a couple bacterial UTIs. he is also managed through diet. raven is the tough one. he has had crystals (way back in 1999/2000), bacterial UTIs (also quite some time ago), and for the last several years they have found nothing in his urine and has been diagnosed with the cat form of interstitial cystitis. he was managed through diet, supplements, and medication for a while, but our new vet (we moved out of state) took him off the meds. and we just manage with diet now. and making sure his stress level is REALLY low.
(he got VERY stressed at our last place because there were a ton of stray/roaming cats around)

my suggestion is to call your vet and pick their brain some more. see what they suggest. with that many UTIs at age 3 i suggest you ask. they may suggest diet change (maybe a canned diet or prescription) or something else. either way, you should find out if he had crystals/bacteria or whatever, if crystals: what kind; and what the vet suggests for a management strategy. if they can't get you anything, i suggest taking him somewhere else for another opinion.

also: Yahoo Cats with FLUTD Group this group can be helpful. i was on it for a while after raven's cystitis was acting up. i still check in off and on. the food listing is really good too.

ps-i would also suggest a cat fountain if you don't have one. the cheapest one is the "petmate freshflow" and you can get it at wal-mart if money is an issue. (we had one for 2+ years before it broke) now we have the Cat-It fountain (same style of waterflow, just over more surface).
